Help me get going!

I've finished the classes, done all of my appointments with PT and the nutritionist-  I just can't seem to stay motivated to lose the ten percent!  (I've lost about 10 of the 14.) How did you motivate yourself to make the committment?  I want to have the lapband, but I know that I have to get my head in the right place first.  I am still falling back on food to comfort every emotion.  In order for the surgery to be successful, I need to conquer my food issues.  (Even when I lose the ten percent, I won't have the surgery until I know that I will be able to make it work for me.) Advice?  Suggestions? I am really looking forward to getting back to the monthly support groups, because I know that will motivate me, but I'd love some advice or inspiration in the meantime!

First, I give you all the credit in the world for starting the process!!  It takes alot to start and keep going especially when you don't feel as motivated as you wish you felt!!  So pat yourself on the back!   Secondly, you are right about being mentally ready before you actually have the surgery.  It is not a walk in the park, yet know you will continue to deal with your food issues for the rest of your life...except now you will have a GREAT tool to help you succeed.  I found it very inspiring to read other profiles of people who have succeeded.  I thought, if they could do it, so couldn't I.  Also, GO GO GO to the meetings.  They help to keep you on track.  They also help give you a chance to help others who are just thinking about having surgery, or just starting.  It lets you see just how far you have come.   Thirdly, don't be so hard on yourself.  Take every day as a new day.  One day at a time.   I lost 20lbs when I started my Pre-OP two weeks before my surgery.  I ate 3-4 Atkins Shakes a day and then ate dinner that consisted of a meat of my choice usually 1-2 serving sizes (depending on how hungry I was at that moment) and a veggie of my choice with no limit on how much of the veggies I ate.  It only took a few days not to feel deprived and I either drank another shake if I wanted or ate more at my dinner if I was hungry!  Good Luck....You will do just fine!!!!!

Hi there.  You have to keep reminding yourself of why you want the surgery.  For me it was wanting it so bad I'd do whatever it took to get it done.  But then I've never been a big emotional eater so it's different for me I guess.  But I would definitely talk to Dr Wagner about it.  I am sure he can help you come up with some suggestions or ways of controling your emotional eating.  You are right it is definitely something to get a handle on for long term success.  You are SO close only 4 lbs to go!   You can do it, just stay strong and focused!  Best wishes as you procede on your journey!

I had a similar thing happen.  I got approved the first part of October, but didn't have my surgery until five and a half weeks later.  The hardest part for me was staying on track so I didn't gain the weight back while I was waiting for those weeks to go by.  I had a habit of using food to comfort myself as well.  I got out the book from the Behavioral Mod Classes and went over everything again, and just focused on what I was going to eat today.  I think it's a great idea to call Dr. Wagner.  He said a bunch of times in the classes I went to that if we're having trouble to CALL.    Good luck. ~Shirley
