June 20th!! Portsmouth Regional Hospital :)
I have finally reached surgical weight, 106 pounds down officially. I met the surgeon this afternoon for my preop evaluation.
I started this process in October 2006. In order to have this surgery, I needed to lose 106 pounds. It is a very strict program. From November 15th through June 6th 2007 I finally lost the 106 pounds.
My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday June 20th, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire. They are anticipating me staying at the hospital only 1 night.
I'm on blood thinners for my long commute and for atrial fibrillation, then need to halt the blood thinners 5 days before surgery. So my last day at work will be next Thursday June 14th. They are expecting a recovery time of 3-4 weeks after surgery so I should be returning to work by July 18th.
Because I am at the upper end of their weight scale, they are being extra careful with healing and post-op care, especially since my commute to and from work is 3 hours total.
The past 6 months has been the hardest in my life. Losing that much weight on your own is hell. Also for my size, this surgery is actually dangerous. I'm scared, nervous and excited all at the same time.
How excited are you? That is awesome !! You have really worked hard so I know you must be ready. You are going to enjoy this journey so much. Just think this time next year you won't be thinking about another diet. I had Dr. Gens do my Gastric Bypass last Jan. He and his team are just great. You are in good hands !! I know your nervous and anxious but that is to be expected. It will all go well. I will be thinking of you on that day and say a little prayer for you. Good Luck and keep us posted on your success. I just wanted to say congratulations on losing the pre op weight! That is absolutely wonderful news. Bravo to you for your strength & determination to get to operation weight. Dr. G assisted Dr. L with my surgery. He came to visit me twice each day in addition to dr. L's visits. They are great drs.
It is totally understandable to be feeling all of those things. I know I did too.
I hope you have a SAFE surgery & a speedy recovery. PRH did a good job... just a couple of nurses that weren't so great (don't let them pull stuff on you if they are awful.)
CONGRATULATIONS!!! that is a signficant amount of weight to have lost in such a relatively short period of time!
My prayers will be with you for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. By next summer we will both look back at old pictures and say.. Who was that person??? The big WOW moment is when you look at a picture of yourself after surgery and see the changes (though i am sure you are seeing plenty of them NOW!).
