Scared as heck

I am 5 years out and I have gained 25 pounds. I am having a problem with eating many times a day and most of the wrong things. I have tried just sitting and having a meal but I still eat less then half and then 10 mintues later I get a snack. All I really eat is slim faster breakfast bars, cheese, pepperoni and pretzals. When fruits are in the house I'll eat them. I still get sick with meat and sometimes fish. Stress has brought out the worst in me again. Help any suggestions. I lost 150 pounds. I have my gastric bypass at Lahey Clinic in 3/02. Thanks for any suggestions that are available to me. Robin G

Hi - I'm only 5 months out, but have some thoughts that I've seen from similar posts I've seen here. 1) Go back to basics. How much protein are you getting in each day - you may be snacking more because you're not getting in enough protein. Fruits aren't bad as long as you have your protein. How much water are you drinking each day? 2) How much activity are you doing? Going out for some long walks in this nice spring weather will help your stress and get things moving again. 3) Is there a support group nearby that you can attend? You'll get a lot of support/ideas there. I know Portsmouth is doing part of their program in Derry and people who have surgery elsewhere can go to those groups. You can get back on track! You've lost and kept off 150 lbs over 5 years - that's a great accomplishment!! Take care - Becky

What about going back to lahey's support group again for a few sessions? Sometimes all it takes is a refresher to remind you where you came from (like going back to the beginning suggestion - except a psychological one). I remember when I was going to have my surgery at Lahey I went to the group and just seeing all those people who completed surgery was like a godsend and perhaps it works the same way in reverse for you. Seeing where you started from might give you the extra motivation to re-examine what is changing. Anyway, try to think cheerfully, Merrimack has not flooded in over a week, we haven't had any snow lately and for the most part it has been pretty nice weather. So give yourself a big break and enjoy the sunshine and stay away from Shaw's, LOL! Seriously, I believe the previous poster has a great ideas for a physical change, and maybe a little extra zap of motivation might help. good luck. Madison
