Pre-surgery weight loss
Hi, NH!
I started the process with Portsmouth Regional Hospital in February. My pre-surgery weight loss is 15lbs, and I'm only down 6. I have back problems and can't really exercise too hard. The diet change was relatively easy... Any suggestions on how to get the weight down? It's pretty much the only thing holding me back at this point!!! :angst:
I did weigh****chers at home to lose my pre op weight. Nancy will send you to see physical therapy. They will assess your condition now & help you to find some activities to help your back and get you moving. That will really help out with the pre op loss. The PRH program is great. I am 3 months out tomorrow and can't be happier with the results so far & the entire program. Dr. Looser is terrific.
Thanks for the tip--and congrats on the surgery!
I have done all my appointments already and I start the classes with Jeff in May. Physical Therapy wouldn't allow me to start exercising because of my back--they didn't want me to make anything worse... So I am doing Physical Therapy at a different hospital.
Have you been to any of the support group meetings? Aren't they great??
Angela,
I had my surgery done at another hospital, but I am now attending the meetings at Portsmouth Hospital. I admire their program!! I had to lose atleast 10 lbs before my surgery on 4/10. They put me on protein shakes 3-4 times a day (at least 15grams of protein each) and then 3oz of a lean meat or fish and veggies for dinner. The veggies had no limit. I had to do this for 2 weeks before my surgery. After the 3rd day I no longer had any cravings and was rarely hungry. When I was alittle more hungrier than usual, I ate alittle more than 3oz of meat and lots of veggies to fill me up. I did not excersize. I lost 20lbs in those 2 weeks. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions! and Good Luck!!!! Patti
Hi Angela,
I see your from Rochester... Me too. And my oldest daughter's name is Angela.
You have done good so far. I too like Terrisa followed the weigh****chers program.
I had to lose 11 and lost 21. All during the holidays. I had Dr. Gens and Dr. Looser was his assistant. They are all so great there. You will love the nurses. I wish you much success. See you in June at the meeting. The Post Op classes are great after you have the surgery you can attend those. They are the Second Monday of the month. If you are having Gastric Bypass the class is 5:30 ... Lap Band class is at 6:30.
Good Luck with your weight loss. Roxanne
