Stopping Vitamins pre-op???

I am scheduled to have my RNY done on April 30th. When i had my pre-op testing done last week, I was told i have to stop taking my multivitamins now (2 weeks prior to surgery) as they said it would interfere with the anesthesia?? has anyone else every heard of this. I have had numerous other surgeries and have never been told this. Just curious as to why I would need to for this surgery.

Hi Tammy, I didn't have to stop my vitamins but I did any ibuprofen. I am really not sure why they want you to stop your vitamins, but they must have a reason. Maybe if you post this on the Main Messageboard some of the others will probably know. The New Hampshire board hasn't been too active lately. I also go on the board for the month I had my surgery a lot. You might want to do this after you have your surgery. There is a good support group on those also. Thanks Roxanne! I have posted this on the Main and RNY boards.. seems only a few people had to stop their vitamins, as some vitamins affect blood thinning?? I am excited and nervous about the surgery (which i understand is normal). I have been "lurking" out on the other boards for a while. Will definitely post once the surgery is done. I have noticed that this NH board has been really inactive lately. Too bad, as we could all be a great support system for each other! Take care, and much luck with your journey!
