All you post-op people have gotta help me on this one. I am just about one week post-op so I know this might be a bit premature but once everything is all healed up, do you really feel satisfied by food? And what about drinking becuase this is what is the toughest for me, all these tiny sips of water and sips of protein shakes.....its a more than a bit frustrating. I want to know if I will get to a point where I can take two or three big swigs of water to get that rush of hydration. The sip, sip doesnt cut it for me. Will that ever be okay without it all coming back up? I have to tell you I am having a little regret that I went with the bypass and not the band. At least than I could be intaking things are more satisfying. Help me, I am getting pretty down on myself and this decision.

Hang in there Heidi. Remember they said you would be depressed or sad and question yourself. I too have said to myself I wish I had done the lapband. But I was told if you are a carb addict or sweet lover that surgery is not for you. That is my big problem. So I went with Gastric Bypass. I still can't get in my fluids. I am lucky if I take in 24 ounces in a day. I have taken a couple of gulps and had no problem. But I guess sipping is better. I do eat a couple of popsicles daily. That helps. Don't be hard on yourself. It is a very hard thing to get through. But I know we can do it. Roxanne

Hey there Heidi, Have you ever thought of posting or just reading posts on the MAIN BOARD? They are very supportive and help with a lot of the questions you are having and even offer some solutions on what has worked for them. Give it a try. Good Luck Stacey

YES - THINGS WILL GET BETTER the further out you get from surgery. One day you will accidentally take a big gulp of something and it will go down just fine and from there on you will feel much more normal than you do sipping all the time. And you will be satisfied by food once your pouch heals and you begin receiving signals that you are full. Right now you probably don't get those feelings and it does take some time. But hold on - you'll get there. It is normal to feel some regret at this point in your recovery. Just remember it is temporary and you will feel much better about your choice when you see the pounds disappearing and you begin to feel really great. Best wishes!!! Bonnie

Heidi, I am 10 months post-op and have no trouble at all getting in my fluids. I cannot guzzle a whole cup of water, but I can take normal size sips one right after the other. On an empty stomach, I can easily drink 8 ounces in less than 10 minutes. I average about 12 cups of fluid a day between water, flavored water, coffee and tea. Hang in there.
