Home from the hospital and not feeling too hot......
Home from the hospital and feeling lousy......
Hi everyone! I got home from the hospital on thursday after being there for 4 days. I should have been out sooner but I was unable to get in all the fluids they wanted me to drink. I wasn't throwing them back up, I just wasnt getting enough in, so they kept me there on an IV. Now that I am home I feel a little less like a piece of roadkill everyday but still in rough shape. I can litterally hear the air in my stomach and bowels bubbling through several times a day. And I cannot push enough to get a good bowel movement on the toilet. (Sorry if TMI). I pray that I could have something other than a CIB or water. I did have an egg once and that was just okay. I want soup, tomato soup, or chix noodle. Why is that such a bad idea? I am calling my nutritionist on monday. I am having a tough time getting all my fluids in still, I dont think I am getting dehydrated but I know I only take in just over half the fluid I should. I just cant force anymore in, its painful. Anyone else with these issues? I want to chuck the CIB's and have four small meals like, yogurt, soup, applesauce, etc.. Why is that bad if it has protein, low sugar, and is mushy. Can I get some feedback, I am feeling pretty anxious and grumpy.
Heidi, not sure if you have RNY or lapband, I'm guessing RNY by the amount of time you were in the hospital and the trouble getting in your fluids. It is so hard to just sip sip all day, I can still remember it. It is important to follow the diet the doctor gave you. You are healing and your stomach (pouch) is very swollen. Tomato soup causes a lot of problems for people even weeks out from surgery because of the high sugar content of the tomatoes and milk. Chicken broth is fine, but no noodles, they are just refined flour and your pouch does not need them. Being dehydrated can definatley make you irritable too, just hang in there and sip, sip, sip. I hope things get better for you.
Hi Heidi,
Glad to hear the surgery is over for you. I had mine at Portsmouth on the 12th of Jan. Then on the 14th I was vomiting ( obstruction) and had to have surgery that day. This time they had to do an open surgery. I was in 6 days and came home. 6 days later I got an infection and had to go back to Dr. Gens office and have it drained and then the visiting nurses came for 2 weeks. I am starting to feel better but am very sore. I still have a hard time getting my fluids in. At first I was sleeping too much. I am now on stage four and see Jacqui this coming Thursday and am hoping for stage 5. I know the food is boring but it will get easier. Right now I am eating cheese, deli turkey, chicken, and ham ground. Plus pudding, yogurt and some beans and egg beaters. Your tummy will stop growling loud in a week. I think mine growled in protest for a couple of weeks. It was sad. Me too !!
Hang in there Spring is coming. This is a good time of year to have this done. We will feel great come summer. Roxanne
