a few more questions- i'm sure i will have many!
Has anyone had their surgery at the CMC in Manchester? How long did you have from start of program to surgery date? When you had your day in the hospital how long do you stay in for? How much time off from work did anyone have to take? Did you lose fast or is it a slow loss for weight? Also i am having the lapband (personal choice) i also have heard that the weight loss is slower than gastric bypass? What was the main reason you chose the surgery that you did? You know why lapband and not gastric bypass or vise versa? Just curious on what motivated people on there personal choice. Also what do you do with all that skin after? I don't think plastic surgery is included in insurances. I do know that i will probably fiance it myself if i can't get it tighten it. My whole family is obese and my sister had the Gastric Bypass a couple of years ago - she looks so different and can run 5 miles a day - i am so jealous!! I won't tell her that. LOL
Hi Diane, I just had my surgery at CMC on Feb.1st. It took me just under 4 months to complete the program. It really is up to you how fast the program goes, by losing the required weight, getting all the appointments you need done and things like that. I had my surgery at 7:30 in the morning and I was home by 8pm the same day. I took a week and 2 days off from work and to be honest, I would like maybe a few more days but I will be fine. I am only a little over a week post op and I have lost 10lbs. since surgery and it's starting to slow down now but that is to be expected. I chose this surgery because I have a friend that died from the bypass so I am afraid of it and I just can't personally allow my insides to be chopped up. I am just too afraid of that. I have nothing against people who want to have the bypass though, it's just not for me. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions. I still feel new to this journey myself. God Bless you!

Hi - I had my surgery at CMC with Dr. Campbell. I started looking into lapband around Feb and had surgery in June. I didn't rush, just took the classes, etc as they came. I had to lose 10 pounds before, lost 12 and actually had to put 2 back on as my BMI went under 40 and my insurance requires 40. The weight loss may be slower but personally I feel it is safer. I (and this is just me) feel that cutting off my stomach and re-routing my colon was just too drastic. I wanted to be as normal as possible, and not being able to eat certain foods because of dumping, didn't seem normal. I wanted to LEARN how to eat healthy and decrease my portion size, which is just what has happened. I feel SOOOO much better and more in control. I have only lost 55 pounds, don't have a lot of extra skin - it seems OK - don't plan on ever wearing a bikini or anything anyway (over 40 y.o.). The decision is yours as to what surgery to have. You will find Lapband people are very much for theirs and RNY are the same - so its difficult to ask that question. It is up to you to realize the pros and cons. Dr. Campbell is wonderful - go to some meetings, maybe that will hep you make your decision. I am very happy with what I did and wish I had done it sooner. Good Luck!
