Well had my pre-op yesterday. Its really sinking in that the day is coming. They did seem surprised that Dr. Gould puts his people on a 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery. So that got me to wondering if that not the norm. My friend had the surgery 2 years ago in MA and she only had a 3 day liquid diet plus a bowel cleaning. SO I dont know...all I know is Im not really liking this part of it...11 more days...cant wait.

Carolyn, I just got my date this morning and i have all my pre-op appointmnets set as well. I am starting to wonder if my surgeon is going to require any liquid dieting before the surgery. Its one of those questions I should have written down, because I kept forgetting to ask. So what are you drinking? Its so hard to have lost the required weight and keep on trucking through with it until surgery when there are so many temptations of food that we are giving up indefinately! This is not an easy road!

congrads on getting your date. Im drinking alot of water. Ive also had broth, Instant carnation breakfast, jello(sugar free) and pudding( sugar free). The first 3 days were the worst...not so bad now...except when everyone sits down for supper.

Woohoo! Congrats~! My consult with Dr Gould is on the 8th so I am hoping that my surgery is not THAT far away but I am not getting my hopes up yet. And yes...from what I see on the other boards I think the 2 week liquid is fairly common although there are doctors that do less and some more. I think it is good actually. First it will get you used to the liquids as you will have at least a month after the surgery that you will not be eating much at all..and secondly..as I understand it...it shrinks your liver. Since they are going to be "in there" around the liver..best to get it out of the way!~ LOL!

Congrats Carolyn! Dont forget your protein shakes too, to mix the unflavored protein with yogurt, etc. I have been doing that Liquid diet one week a month in prep for my surgery.. which i am hoping will be in March. After about 3 days.. i must admit get really tired of soups!!
