looking for support group
Hi, I am in the process of gathering all my eggs in a row for my doctors apt in 2 weeks.
I have decided to push for wls since i am morbid obese and in my early 30. I have struggled with my weight since childhood. After to many failed attempts I have been researching the procedures for about 3 months now.
I called the hospital and got barreatrics and left a message for some info on support groups. The charmin (yeah right) lady told me to read her website which is where i got her info from. I just wanted more info.
Anyways I live in mass But my insurence is nh only, my pcp is in hampstead. Does any one have any info on support groups in the area of southern nh. South of manchester perferably.
Parklands web site has an info night in october, and a support group for people who have had the surgery, I am looking for one for people going threw the process
thanks
scotty
Hi Scotty,
Check out the website for Parkland Medical Center. I believe they have a "pre-op" info session the first week of every month.
Support group sessions usually welcome anyone. I attend one in Winchester on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Jenks center. I know when I was researching WLS, I attended Parkland's seminar, as well as Lowell, Winchester and Boston. Doesn't hurt to get all the information you can to make an informed decision.
Best of luck,
DianeC.
Scotty,
I too am in the process of looking for a facility in the southern nh area. Both SNHMC and St Joseph hospital have disbanded their programs. (Dr's left). So far the only hospitals I have found in Southern NH are Parkland, CMC and Elliott (in combination w/DHMC-Manchester). I am signed up for an information night at CMC.
I have been doing TONS of research and found that CMC has the least amount of hoops to jump through and have read good things about Dr. Campbell. I am waiting for a call back from Parkland about their information night in October.
Hope this helps.
Hi Scoyy,
I had my surgery at SNMC in Nashua. Unfortuanly our surgeon (who was awesome) left and as a result the groups got cancelled as well. Anyway, I still go there for my nutrician visits and was told that the support meetings will probably be starting back up again in September, it was a great group of people. It will be mostly post ops I imagine because they do not have a current program, but if I get a for sure date and time I will post it for you. Good luck on your journey! It was the best decision I have ever made and I have NO REGRETS!!!!!
