I'm fine - I sure miss eating!

Dear NH family, I am 9 days out of surgery and I'm doing fine. I went to my first post-op appointment at Obesity Treatment Center and got my diet advanced to Phase 3, pureed foods - when I was cleared for scrambled eggs I thought I was going to bust out crying (with joy). I have been having difficulty dealing with artifical sweeteners and the protein drink - which is as good as can be expected, really, just so much sweetness! I always went for the savory, salty foods. All the splenda and nutrasweet were starting to make me feel sick. Thank goodness my DH just made me an awesome batch of incredibly diluted, naturally sweetened juice and each little sip tastes so wonderful - love you, Scotty! My next dietary appointment at OTC is on June 29 and at that point I hope to be reintroduced to - more like throw myself in the arms of - solid food (albeit solid food chewed up 100 times a bit). I did post as soon as I got home, but it was in reply to a friend's post here, so maybe it didn't show up. My surgery went very well, I have virtually no pain, feel energetic and mentally sharp and am very thankful to be on the losing side! Love you all, Anne

Anne, glad to hear everything is going great!!!! I have been away for a few weeks and just getting back and catching up. I had a hard time with the sweetness at first, they had me on glucerno for my diabetes, but I would cry when my husband would make me drink it, didn't even want my 2 oz's which seems so funny now. After six months I am doing great. Finding it hard to eat different food though, sometimes eggs are all right and sometimes they aren't. I really wanted milk the other day when I was grocery shopping, so I picked up a small thing of skim milk. Well my daily routine is usually for breakfast I have a protein bar, for lunch I have a protein shake and then for dinner some sort of meat with a vegatable, then I usually have some sort of protein snack at night to get the rest of my protein in (beef jerky, or peanut butter). So I took my spoon of peanut butter and poured myself a small glass of milk well it hit me all of a sudden, I still can't believe I dumped on the milk so definately can't drink milk anymore (kind of bummed over that I loved milk, don't miss the other stuff but I was missing milk). But keep up the great work and you will see what works for you and what doesn't as you start adding different foods into your diet. Jennie
