My therapist is a big believer in this surgery and does a lot of these evaluations. We've talked at length about the types of questions asked during the evaluations. A huge part of the evaluation is determining whether or not you understand this is not a quick fix and that it will require a ton of work on your part.

That being said, there's no reason for the evaluator to make you feel bad or try to scare you. Your food choices to date haven't been great...that's why you're pursuing this surgery. You are looking for a change...a big change.

As for seeing more people fail than succeed...that's a pet peeve of mine. People tend to be more vocal when they have a problem than when they're happy. How often do you hear people rave about the service at their local coffee shop? It's not because the service is always bad...it's because people expect good service and don't rave about it.

The very fact that you're posting here tells me you're serious about making this work. You'll find a lot of supportive people here. I'm excited to hear how the surgery goes later this week!

I didn't have the DS...but my doctor's partner, Dr. Anthone, does it at Methodist. I love my doctor and I've heard great things about Dr. Anthone. Their support group meets this Thursday. I'll dig up the details and send them to you if you want.

Dr. Winterstein is my doctor...and I love him!

I picked Dr. Winterstein specifically because I like him and his staff. He's very laid back and really wants to see his patients succeed. He's big on listening to your body and learning what works for you. He doesn't require nutritionist appointments or force patients to count protein grams. I really feel like he trusts me to make the right decisions and take care of myself.

More than anything, the vibe at the office is wonderful. There's a lot of laughter and teasing. The staff is friendly and helpful. I was most impressed when I realized they all knew my name and voice...before my surgery.

I'll be at the support group meeting this Thursday. Shall I look for you?

Hi Kati,

Yes I am lost as well.  I didn't have Dr. Sudan very long (last saw him at my 3 month in early August, when he told me he was leaving).

I would love to get together sometime!  I have basically no friends in the area, one I guess I should say so I am lost for anyone to connect with.  My best buddy (little sis adopted) lives in Canada too far for coffee get togethers.  LOL

Are they having another meeting this month?

I have BCBS NE but it is through my employer.  Had no problems with the coverage (BMI of 54 with no comorbidities).  Like the others said it depends on the employers "package".  When I called to ask if it was covered they wouldn't give me an answer until my surgeon's office submitted the info.

Hello neighbor, I'm in Holdrege.  If you ever want to meet up and chat or something I would be more than willing.  I went to the support group last month and really enjoyed talking with people that were having similar issues as me even though I was the only one there with the rny.  I'll miss it this month unfortunately.  I don't know about you, but I felt kind of lost after Dr. Sudan left (he did my surgery), so now I'm re-learning some things and getting as much support as I can get.  Feel free to send me a msg, Kati.

Topic: nutrition consult
I am in the process of just gettng started toward surgery.  I have a mandatory nutrion consult coming up in a week or so and my insurance does not cover this.  Does anyone know about what the average nutrition consult may cost?  I am going to the Universtiy of Neb Med Center.

THANKS
