Topic: Weight loss surgery in Grand Island.
Just thought I would pass this information on.
I read in the Grand Island Independent today that two surgeons here will be present information on Laparoscopic bastric banding and bypass. Dr. Luebbe and Dr. Schneider will be doing the presentation at St. Francis Hospital on TeusdayJuly 21st.
YEAH maybe I can get my fills done here instead of driving to Omaha, losing a day of work, cost of gas etc.
I did call the office and the receptionist said they were not doing fills yet. HMM how can they do the lap band without doing fills. I am going to the seminar and asking the surgeons themselves if they are doing the fills.

The band has been nothing...NOTHING but trouble for you. I would wait the time out and try for RNY. I have had much success with my Lap RNY and wouldn't change it for the world. Glad to see you back here again! April

Hi Jill, I am so sorry to hear your band has eroded. Band erosion is one of the complications of the band. You can have the band replaced after 4-6 months of healing depending on what your surgeon says. Good luck. Let us know how you are doing. Mona

I'm so very sorry this has happened to you. Unfortunately I've heard of this happening all too often. I'll keep you in my prayers that your surgery to have it removed will go well.
Maybe after you have healed you could consider getting the duodenal switch with Dr. Gary Anthone in Omaha, Nebraska. He is an excellent surgeon and has performed over 2000 DS surgeries.
If you want to learn more about the duodenal switch you can visit http://www.dsfacts.com or http://www.duodenalswitch.com. There is also a surgery forum here on Obesity Help.
Again, I am so sorry this is happening to you.

Topic: Lap-Band Errosion
Haven't posted in forever. I've had a heck of a time w/my lap-band. I had to have the port removed 3 times, due to infection. I started having major problems in Jan. w/abdominal pain. I was told I had a hernia in front of my port that would have to be fixed before I could get another fill. I had a CT Scan & t/results came back that it was not a hernia. Just some kind of lump the size of a sm.peach. I continued to have pain in that area. About 2 wks. ago it became difficult to swallow solid food, without pain. The Dr. then decided I needed to see a gasterololigest. The beginning of this week, I started having pain at the band site. I wasn't supposed to see the gastro guy until next wk..But under the present conditions, I was seen this past Thurs. My band has erroded into my stomach. I go to Lincoln on Mon. & on Tues. morning the entire thing has to come out. I was told I might be able the go the gastric bypass after 6 mos. of healing. Does anyone know if this is a common problem w/the band ?
Topic: RE: Pre-Op Testing: Unexpected Results
Hi Rita, I am sorry to hear about your lab results. It is a good thing these were caught before you had surgery. A lot of people are hypothyroid. Your surgeon and other doctors on your team want you to be as healthy as possible. Once everything stabilizes you will have your surgery. Let us know how you are doing. Mona

Topic: Pre-Op Testing: Unexpected Results
I am so sad. I think I am in shock. Always test come back normal, especially if I say there is something wrong. I haven't felt my 'normal' good for months and I had Laryngitis and an unknown virus or something and never felt the best since. Well, doing all the required pre-op (DS) testing needed as asked for by Dr. Gary Anthone, Methodist Hospital, there were results that popped up that weren't there in March when the last tests were done for my annual physical.
I have an enlarged liver to start. Something is low... can't remember what it was but no signs of disease. I will need to monitor the function of my liver for the next 3-6 months to see if it wavers one way or the other.
Also, my thyroid went from 3.16 to 10.5 (tested March then July). I am now on medication I am being told I have to take for the rest of my life. Hypothyroid Where did that come from!?!?? Ahh!
I also am being told that an Anesthesiologist would not likely clear my for surgery with the thyroid issue. I am panicking and sad. SAD. I have been ready for DS foreverrrrrrrrrrr now!
I go to the Endocrinologist Wednesday afternoon, my doctor got me in with the same dr I saw about six years ago. So sad.
Anyone have similar issues?
