Dear Lori: I am so sorry you have had some real scary complications. I do worry about that. I have a girlfriend , who too, had many complications. It has taken her 4 years to actually heal. It was a nightmare. She on the otherhand has so many health issues. Anytime she has needed surgery, she barely escapes death. I too have other girfrineds who have done great. Recently I got my records from my doctor and he has an entry in there that says that at present lifestyle I am killing myself. He also tells me that the risks of surgery with an excellant surgeon are no different fromt the risks I take everyday. I am planning the RNY with Dr. T White in Omaha. His track record is awesome. I decided against the DS because of being completely opened up. Can I ask who your doctor was?? Take Care, Chris

Hi Dorothy, your diabetes meds will be lowered before you go home. Make sure you check your blood sugar daily and if you are having daily insulin reactions or several throughout the week, call your pcp and tell him or her to cut back on your meds. You will probably be changing doses and drugs frequently while you are cutting down. Hope this helps. Mona

Hi- with my surgery date fast approaching, I've been wondering how other type 2 handled cutting back their meds. I'm currently on Lantus, Byette, and metformin. My PCP has pretty well left my DM2 management up to me, so no real good answers there. Also, because of the DM2, will I take longer to heal- both interior and exterior sutures? Karen, I had to have my band empyed early Feb and now just got it filled to 1.7..and thats pretty tight for me. I'm getting so excited to go in April to Ca...later and lighter, Beth
