Topic: Liquid diet
For some reason the liquid diet is the part of the lapband surgery that I am the most nervous about.  I am scheduled on June 19th.  How long should I expect to be on the liquid diet and then on the soft diet?   Jeannie

Hi Chris, I found this website of protein recipes that I thought would be helpful as well: http://www.barixclinicsstore.com/recipe_main.html

I got the booklet, "Shake It Up! High Protein Shake Pudding and Soup Recipes", during my pre-op meeting with the nutritionist, Beth Hersh.  It's nothing fancy but it's been really helpful to me.  She also gave me a pamphlet called "Lap Band Surgery & Your Nutrition" that each dieting phase and sample diets.  When did you have your surgery?  She didn't give you any information about your new diet?  That's weird.  I will scan both booklets for you tonight!! Just passing on the info, Tammie

Topic: RE: Help? I'm new here!
Hi Hope. I am pretty new here also. I had 2 friends that had the RNY and that is what I am going for. I am with Dr. White in Omaha. I had another friend that also had your Dr. Sudan. He made my friend lose 70 lbs. before he would do surgery on her. Anyway, I chose the Rny because I do not like the idea of something foreign in me. I have been told that some peolpes bodies do reject the band after a few years. Whether that is true or not I do not know for sure, but because I have not chosen this I have not pursued getting the answer. Good luck in what ever you choose. I know I am in the process of insurance approval. It shoudl be soon. Take care -------- Chris

Hi Hope! I think that the 30-40% range is quite low. I had surgery in January and I am at 36% already. I go to UNMC and she expects 50% to be successful but really pushes for 70%. There is also very little reason why you can't reach 100% depending on what type of work you put into it. I have already "tamed" my Type 2 diabetes and had a normal A1C with no meds. I think that you can be successful with any type of surgery if you put your mind to i****ch what you eat, drink water and exercise. Few other notes - I saw on Dr. Sudan's profile that he had only done 20 bands. That may be outdated but you may want to check on that - that is an awfully low number. Be sure to check out the other forums on this board that are not state specific. There is a band board, a DS board, an RNY board. You will learn a ton on each surgery and maybe it will help you make a better decision. One thing that is often mentioned with bands is the maintenance and upkeep of them. It is true - they require you to go in occasionally and have fills. I actually liked this part of it. I had read that with RNY, you have a window of opportunity. With my band, I feel like I have an unlimited opportunity as I can always get adjustments. They are painless! Good luck in your journey! Stacy

Hi, I had a gastric bypass by Dr. Goering in GI and haven't had any problems at all-I will be a year on 6/6 and have lost about 150lbs (don't know for sure till i go for my year checkup) I haven't had any problems with diar. or gas (unless I eat too much Splenda). I know a lot of people that had lapband and haven't lost the weight like they wanted to or gained it back. I also switched from lapband to gas.bypass and am so glad that I did. I would have it again in a heartbeat, best thing I ever did for myself. Feel wonderful and have tons of energy. good luck

Hi Tammie-- Dr. White is my surgeon also. Did you ask the Dr. for this booklet or did they just give it to you?? I have not received anything from them as for recipes. That would be great. I am at [email protected] Thank you so much !! Chris

I use Carb Solutions (chocolate or vanilla). I order it from drugstore.com. It is currently on sale there for $6.50/can. It's usually $12.99/can. I couldn't find this locally so I but it online. I use 1% low fat milk as well as a couple of scoops of dry nonfat powder milk with my shake. I got a really good receipe book from my doctor's office (Dr. White). If you want some receipes, let me know and I can email them to you. (It's too long to pick here!!) Hope this helps, Tammie
