Topic: RE: Protein drinks ??

Chris,

I use ISOPURE protein drink which i picked up from GNC it has many flavours and comes in powder and bottled form.  It has 50 g of protein, no sugar, no carb.  I got a mixed box that came with 5 different flavours and it really isn't that bad.  I got banded on the 12 and even have a hard time finishing one.

good luck, monisha

Topic: Just got denied!
Greetings everyone: Received my denial letter today. BCBS of CA states that the clinical information provided by Dr. M's office does not support medical necessity.   I know that I am borderline as my BMI is 39 or 37 (depending on if you use my weight in Jan or April), and my co morbidities are not severe enough asthma, high blood pressure and depression.  This make me wonder what was missing.      I have 30 days to appeal.  Has anyone been successful in overturning their denial? Is it normal here for the bariatric surgeons to just send in your records along with a surgery request to your insurance?  When I lived in Chi Town, I looked into having surgery there and you actually met with either a LPN or RN who took a really thorough history.  I think she asked me everything including my panty size......just joking!! But really, it was pretty detailed and they wanted to know lots of facts about my mother and aunt both have suffered strokes and breast cancer and are obese. Its late and thank you all for taking the time to read this........ To all those that have surgery dates, I wish you success on your road to weight loss.

It took me about 10 days to feel normal.  Keep up on the Gas X and pain pills and you will get through it. Think of the benefit - I doubt you are even thinking about eating  :)

Sweetie, don't worry about it.  It is like haveing a baby.  It hurts for a little while and then you see the results and it is all worth it.  Don't let this scare you.  You'll do fine and be so glad when you see the weight falling off and your co-morbidities drifting into the history books. Hazel

Topic: RE: Liquid diet
Hi Jeannie, I just got banded on 6-12 so if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.  So many questions and many answers.   My DR has me on clear liquid for one day after surgery then 2 wks of semi-liquid ( milk based like protein shakes and cream soups, pudding, cream of wheat) then 2 wks of pureed foods then 3wks of soft which is when i will have my first fill and then from wk9 regular foods (no high fat or sugar). Honestly with the meds I don't feel like "eating" plus you have to drink all the protein and water.  You really have to have a schedule and journal everything or you might forget what you have "eaten". My best advice to you is to be PREPARED BREATHING exercises-  take deep breathes that inflate your chest and exhale slowly. PROTEIN shakes- try them out now to find out which one you like better. ( i bought ISOPURE protein powder from GNC it has 50 g of protein and no sugar or carbs so really you only have to have 1 plus the other foods to have a daily intake of 70 g of protein) SEMI-LIQUID-  have the puddings and cream soups ready ( i mix the cream soups with chicken broth instead of water to have more protein. PAIN-take as much pain meds as you can (do not believe the people who say that there was no pain and i could go back to work after a couple of days or that they started excercising right away) yes, u do have to walk but that is about it.   Best wishes and good luck, mona

Um, don't know how else to say this, but.... you just had surgery!  Give yourself 6 weeks to recover.  This isn't an instant kind of thing.  Be grateful that you are feeling anything, even discomfort.  Some people aren't lucky enough to have the option of having had WLS.  I am five years out, and it was uncomfortable, but after my period of recovery I started seeing and feeling the results of my surgery.  I am very very grateful for this gift of a second opportunity to live my life to it's fullest.  You too have been given the chance to participate more in real living.  Be grateful and relish this new life you are embarking on.  Betty in NE

OH MY GO**** really hurts.  When will I feel better?  The pulling sensations eventhough I have been reassured that the stiches won't come out I feel like I am pulling the skin apart and sometimes my body just tenses up and that really hurts.  I have been taking GASX but I don't think it's helping.  I am just telling myself I will feel better in a couple of weeks and in a couple of months I won't even remember the pain because I will be looking better. I also started getting anxious and nervous that maybe I can't do this like maybe I made a mistake, but I know deep down this was the right choice for me.  I can't understand I was so ready to get this over with and I was so excited and now I feel so bad.

Topic: I have a date !!!!
Hello everyone-- I am so excited!!! And Nervous!!! I will be having surgery on August 6th-2007. I met with my surgeon yesterday. He is fantasic. I need to attend a preop class in Omaha and do some bloodwork, and I am ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am nervous because my doc told me that I since I have had previous abdominal surgery, I may not be able to do it laproscopically. If there is too much scar tissue, I may have to have it doen "open". Gosh I pray not. I cannot be gone that long from work. Did anyone else have previous surgeries?? I had my gallbladder and an adrenalectomy. Thank you, Chris
