Topic: RE: Sad after seminar
I understand the wait is hard, but as it has been stated, use the time to learn. Learn all you can. Start practicing some of the stuff that you'll have to do after the fact. For example, as soon as I started the process and learned about the post op diet, etc. I stopped using straws, I quit drinking soda, and I started using sugar-free everything. It helped me figure out if I was actually capable of going through all of this. It was great prep-time, and I think you'll find the the same is true for you. Really a year is not that long? How long have you been over weight?...I've been for years, what was another 6 months. Hang in there!

Hello--
First of all, you should call your insurance company and see if they cover WLS at all. If they do, ask them to send you the requirements you need to have it done. If they do not cover it, then your only option would be to self pay .
I am having RNY on August 6th with Dr. White in Omaha. He is an excellant Dr. and I would recomend him . He will have a check off sheet for things you will need to do., but the first and most important is to talk to your insurance company. Then you can proceed with the seminar.
Best of luck to you,
Chris C

Hi Kym, insurance companies can be such a pain to deal with. Unfortunately you have to jump through their hoops to get approved. Get going and get it over with. The insurance company wants to wear you down so don't give up. Let us know how things are going. Mona

I have Coventry insurance and was wondering if anyone has experience with them. I am thinking about Lap Band and am reading all the comments about insurance and rejections, etc.
This is the first time I've ever posted a comment or anything so I hope I'm doing this right. I go to my first support group the first of August at Immanuel Hospital with Dr. White. I must say, I am a little apprehensive about all of this but I just cannot get this weight off and am giving in slowly but surely.
Thanks,

Topic: WOW moment
HI everyone, Well I had a WOW moment the other day. I finally rode my horse for the first time in a year since before my surgery. I had ridden my friends horse who is older and a lot shorter and slower than mine after my surgery and that went well. Anyway I bought a new saddle because my old one was too big and put it on my gelding and got on my mounting block (because he is so tall) and got right up in the saddle without any struggling or hauling my old fat butt up there and being out of breath by the time I got in the saddle or needing someone to boost my butt up even with the mounting block. I got up 1-2-3 just like a normal person and it made me so happy I started to cry. Then we rode for about an hour and my horse Dunny was happy as can be. He used to get grumpy and grind his teeth and kind of grunt a lot. (who could blame him since I weighed almost a 1/4 of his weight) It felt so good to be back on him again and we had a great ride. Even dismounting was easy and normal! My friends were so happy and so was I that I cried again!! (what a wuss) After 155lbs gone I feel so wonderful. I am an avid horseperson and have lots of energy to do stuff with them again. I just had to share this moment. ALso going back east to visit my family next month who haven't seen me since Dec. Lost 55lbs since then so I just can't wait. Will try for the NP mtg in Aug. been too busy doing ranch stuff lately to go. L

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I had the RNY lap, I was back to work in 3 weeks. ( I have a part time sit down job) I had wanted tohave the band because I was crazy about the invasivness of RNY but my insurance (medicare)didnt do band. I am glad I had RNY now, they weright came off so quickly and I have a LIFE now..I know you are not happy about how long this journey may take, but as everyone has told you, jump in and get started..Best of luck to you.
