Topic: RE: VSG surgeon in Nebraska?
Hi, could you be talking about VBG? That is a vertical banded gastroplasty. Those procedures aren't done anymore. The band wasn't adjustable and people weren't able to maintain weight loss. There is also the gastric sleeve operation. The surgeon makes a small tunnel of stomach. The gastric band is the least invasive of all the procedures available. If you need additional information please feel free to contact me. Mona

I am very limited in my knowledge about this type of surgery but I thought I read that there were onlhy like 80 surgeons who do this procedure. I Bet that number is starting to grow as it becomes more popular. At my seminar at UNMC in January, this wasn't even mentioned as an option. I am going to the seminar again tomorrow to support a friend and I will be interested in hearing if they mention it now.
OH has a forum just for this procedure so I am sure that you can get more information on it there.
Good luck.

My insurance does not cover any type of WLS. I am looking into different types of surgery and am interested in learning more about VSG....I've got to look up what those letters stand for! Anyway, since I would have to self pay I like what I have learned about this procedure.

Hi everyone, Well I am back home from my NJ visit with family and friends. They were all pretty shocked at the difference in me since Dec. My Mom was so happy she kept calling me skinny minnie! Not a word that I am used to associating with myself. My sister just said WOW, my cousins who both had the surgery were so happy for me. My other cousin who is trying to get approved for the surgery said wow I have another skinny cousin. I feel so bad for him, he really needs the surgery and he has sleep apnea, and has to lose 50 lbs before the md will do the surgery and he is having a hard time doing that. He is addicted to sugar-he admits it. I tried encouraging him but didn't want to push too hard. I know I didn't like it when people did that to me. My boyfriend who lives in NJ said that I looked like his "old Laura" from before I moved out here 9 yrs. ago and said how wonderful I looked, even though he loved me fat, he said he was thrilled how good I look. So, now time to get back to the gym, I actually missed going. Even though I did walk a lot in the mall-(not like the malls here) they have about 500 stores in the malls in NJ. So I did get some exercise. I am going to really try and make the NP mtg in Sept. see everyone then. L

Laurie, I live in Omaha. I'm thrilled to get to see Dr. Sudan. I really wanted a surgeon who does the DS, and I've been waiting for Medicare to cover it, and for Creighton to finally get their COE. Let me know how it goes with your appointment. Hopefully, I'll be just a month behind you on this journey.

Topic: Support Group Meetings in Central Nebraska
Hi,
I know there is a support group that meets in Grand Island on the 1st and 3rd Monday.
Unfortunately I am already scheduled for church meetings on those Mondays. I om on a board and I made a commitment for that so I can't back out, I have always told my kids if you make a committment you need to stick with it.......so I guess this is one time I have to take my own advice.
My questions is there another support group in the Grand Island/Hastings/Kearney/LIncoln area? If not I would have to drive to Omaha which I will do but if I can save on gas and find one closer that would be great. I also heard there is one in North Platte what days does that meet?
I am still waiting for insurance approval just got all my stuff in last week for Dr. White's office to send to the insurance company.

Topic: RE: Do YOU want to Enlist but b/c of WLS you can't?
Mom25,
AMEN to THAT! I am determined! And I know I can pass it all! They would not break me! And I am proud of your daughter for standing up for herself! Thank God for Strong Minded Women!
Thanks for your support!
Angie
ps. oddly enough I don't think the police departments would disqualify becauseof WLS nor does the Coast Guard (homeland security) as far as I can find out! Go figure. I can carry a weapon and defend locally but I can't do it overseas! Dishonorable!
