Topic: RE: Let's talk Docs! Lapband surgeons in OMAHA
Jayme, I have been doing a large amount of research on the lap-band, and I also have read your profile. What happend to you has happend to alot of people, the older style bands had that problem. The erosion of the band has to do with the way they were made. The company has revised the lap-band, and they are expected to last longer. I dont think your surgeon was the reason for the erosion. As with all surgery there are risks, My sister-n-law had the RNY and after a year ended up having to have it un-done, she almost died.  Her bowels were obstructed, and they kinked up and were infected. But this was not because of her surgeon it was just something that happend and also she wasnt following all the rules set out by her surgeon. I hope this will make you feel a little better. Rebecca

Topic: RE: VSG Surgeon in Nebraska?
Thank you for recommending Dr Anthone.  Another  OH member emailed me a week or so ago and suggested Dr Winterstein, who is in Dr Anthone's office.  I just need to call to check the dates for his educational seminar and get answers to a few other questions that I have.  I'm glad to hear that your DS has gone so smoothly.  I have heard of others asking for the DS so they can get insurance approval, and then not going back for stage II.  There is so much to consider.  I'll keep that option in mind if I run into trouble.  Thanks! Dr. Anthone in Omaha does the DS and I think he will do a stand alone sleeve. Does your insurnace cover that? The sleeve was not covered by my insurance so I have the DS and LOVE it. You could always get approval for the DS and then have it done in two stages and just not get the 2nd part of the surgery if you don't need it. I think the sleeve is a very good option. Call Dr. Anthone's office, they will be more than willing to help and can line you up with someone else if he will not do the VSG. PM me if you want any more info from me. Good luck,
Michelle

Topic: Sad Loss
For any old timer's that may be still around and for anyone in general, my dearest wls sister Krinnie from Kearney passed away this past Tuesday at the age of 55.  Krinnie and I were friends for years and went through our wls journey together.  We both began our journey's in 2000 and were very active on this site and other wls groups, back when there were very few of us compared to now.  About a year ago Krinnie began feeling very ill and suffered for quite some time before they found that her liver was failing.  She ended up passing before a suitable donor could be found.  I am reassured to know that she had several good years post op where she lived life to its fullest.  I will miss her greatly.  Sue
