Chasity, I had RNY on the 10th of Jan. My husband has Mutual of Omaha Mutually preferred insurance. I had only had it since Oct. of 2005 and they did a preexisting condition investigation on me to make sure that I had not been recieving any treatment due to my obesity other than a supervised diet. The only thing I am aware that they required was that I was considered morbidly obese and that the surgery was medically necessary. HTH. Steph

My husband & I both had the surgery this spring. Our insurance was thru my former employer and is United Healthcare PPO Plus. We each have to pay part tho. The plan had a $500 per person deductible per year.... so we each pay that first. Then we pay 10% until we hit the 'max out of pocket amount'. which is $2000 each. So, it wasn't 'free', but it sure wasn't 'full-price'. good luck. Sally

Hi Sally, I haven't heard from you for some time. How are you? I didn't know you had the surgery? Did you go to Dr Hung? Last I knew you where just starting the big hike. Well Iam glad to hear you had the surgery and are doing fine. Did you go to Dr Hung? I'll see you at the post-op support group. This will be my first since surgery so it should be exciting. See you there. Brooke

Hi Brooke.... Yes... I went to Dr Hung, so I will see you at the support group next week. My surgery was on the 18th of April and we all expected it to be lap, but it had to be open. For some unknown reason I was full of adhesions and most of my organs were 'stuck together'. What was supposed to be a 1.5 hour surgery took 6 hours. (Weird, because I've never had any gall bladder problems or previous surgery... one of those excrement occurs deals I guess.) My husband said when he talked to Dr Hung after the surgery he looked like he'd really been working for a living... not his usual perky self.... poor guy. I was in intensive care for 3 days and a regular room for 2 more days, getting out of the hospital that Sunday. Today Lisa took out the staples and put on steri-strips. It feels better without all those dang staples. Would you believe I GAINED TWENTY THREE POUNDS in the hospital !!!???!!! That saline must be fattening stuff. By tomorrow that weight should be gone, I hope. I hope I start feeling better soon so I can start looking for a new job. But I'm not up to it yet. ttyl Sally

Thanks Janet... I'm doing OK... if you read my post to Brooke you'll see that my recovery is gonna take a bit more time than I anticipated. My husband is doing well... he took pretty good care of me while I was really hurting, but I'm on the mend now. ttyl Sally

A little scary - I know I have to have open surgery. I was SO hoping for lap. Oh well. Glad to hear you're on the mend! Janet
