You all may get sick of me soon.
I will probably be posting more often on this board now, as 'my position was eliminated' at work, and I've got a lot more time on my hands.
I believe around 16 people from my dept got the axe on Tuesday, and I was one. I wasn't surprised, but I'm pretty bummed.
My husband has MS and is no longer able to work (the fatigue has him sleeping around 18 hours a day!), so our health insurance is thru my employer. They will continue the insurance thru the end of this month, and then they will pay 3 additional months insurance if I sign the waiver that I will not sue them. After that, I can COBRA insurance for 15 additional months. But that will cost an arm and a leg!!!
Next week I'll be attending a 3 day seminar on job-hunting and resume writing etc.... but I'll probably be here a LOT! I'm a mainframe programmer and there are NO openings in this town for those right now, so I may be changing career paths... as in "Do you want fries with that?" heheheh
Since I've been planning to have WLS soon I'm going to try to get that speeded up. I'm seeing the nutritionist this AM, and will have the psych eval next week. I hope I pass the psych eval because if I don't, then I bet I will never get to have the surgery. It is hard to find jobs with good benefits, and even HARDER to find ins thru an employer that covers WLS.
I'm pretty depressed about losing my job, but I've been laid off before, so I hope that the therapist will take that into consideration and approve me. Because if she doesn't... like I said.... this may be my only chance!
Keep your fingers crossed for me that all goes well with her next week, and that I find a good job soon, ok?
THANKS!
Sally
Oh, Sally, I'm so sorry to hear about your job.
Why would they not pass someone on a psych evaluation?
I assume you need a job at a large company that uses mainframe. I work for the State, and of course, there are still mainframe applications there, but admittedly, fewer than there used to be.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
