Principal Insurance
Penny,
I had the lapband done in June of this year. Principle ( midlands choice) was my insurance carrier. Not to dampen your spirits, but I got rejected 2 times and then got approved on the 3rd appeal. My experience is that you must have good documentation of medically supervised weight attemps by your physican. You must also have documentation of related health problems, such as diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, etc. You must show that you have a compromised health state due to obesity. Now, several of my co-workers that have also got approved through Principle did not have as much trouble as I did. Some got approved the first time or the second appeal. There is no rhyme or reason to the way they look at it?? If you need any suggestions or need to talk about it, feel free to email me. Don't give up....they want you to get discouraged and go away. I was willing to fight to the bitter end. It was worth it, however very difficult to wait 1 1/2 yrs to finally get the surgery done. I have lost 58 lbs since my surgery! It was worth the pain and trouble! Best wishes on your journey! Shelly
