Hi I am new here....? about BC/BS

Hi my name is Liz. It is nice to find a message board for Obesity help. I am thinking about having the lap band done and I was wondering if anyone has BC/BS PPO and has been approved? I emailed them to ask if it was covered and they just told me that BC/BS does not pay for any treatments related to obesity. Thanks for any help!! Liz

Liz, I fought BCBS ppo through the 2nd appeal stage. They would not budge. They would not pay for anything related to weight loss. So we changed ins. Now the hopsital says they don't want to deal with this ins. so I have ended up being self-pay. I hope you have better luck. Linda

Liz, You might want to re-read your policy carefully... Usually they will not pay for anything related to obesity, but WILL PAY for treatment for **MORBID** obesity. If you need weight loss surgery, then you are most likely morbidly obese. Double check before you become self pay. And hey... Has anyone EVER mentioned the Duodenal Switch to you? I had this surgery done in Omaha and am down 90 lbs in 8 months with no complications. It has allowed me the most normal eating habits with a tremendous weight loss. Laurie in So Calif.
