Husband's Surgery
My husband had RNY lap on March 2nd at the VA hospital in Omaha. Dr Mcbride was his dr. He was put on a diet of Carnation instant Breakfast and veggies for three weeks before the surgery and lost 30 lbs and has lost another 10 since the surgery. He did end up with a urinary tract infection and is on anitbiotics for it right now. He is doing well and is on liquid diet until April 1st. My husband is the third one in our family now to have he surgery. My daughter had rny-lap on Jan 11th and is doing well also and is now down around 45 lbs. My son is now talking about it but is not sure if he will do it or not. I am now down 74 lbs and expect my daughter and husband will soon catch up and pass me as far as weight lost is concerned. I feel wonderful and started riding bike (got very cold today tho) I also put on a swimsuit and took my grandaughter swimming while we were in Omaha. These are all activities I would never have done before surgery. Hope everyone else is doing as well as us take care and live well ... Sue
Yes I'm sure he will. The three of us made our own decisions and I would never try to convince anyone to do this. The first few months were pretty dramatic for me so I'm trying to help my daughter and husband thro theirs. I warned them those would be the hardest. And everyone is different my daughter can't eat things that I could at 2 months and my husband's doctor has him on liquid diet for one month where my dr had me on pureed food. He is handling it very well and I'm very proud of him. My daughter and I were afraid he would have problems he was a big eater and this is really a big change for him.
I think that is so great that u can work together as a family in your weight loss, its so much easier to have someone close *****ally understands. There is a couple on the 50s board who had their surgeries a month apart. I get a big kick out of them going out to dinner, sharing one meal and still leaving with doggie boxes. I bet the faces of the wait staff are priceless. Congratulations to you all..JeanB
Sue, so sorry I'm so late in wishing good luck to your husband but better late than never...so the saying goes! Life is certainly wonderful when out health and well being starts getting better isnt it ?? yes, is my answer I am still praying for my oldest daughter to get her Band as she cant have the RNY because of intestineal problems. She should have had it June 25 of 02 but insurance keep denieing the band for her. Tell all in your family that they have one of the best support systems around, each other. Hugs, Beth in NP
