I was wondering for those of you who had your surgery earlier. Can you eat just about anything again, just in limited quantities?? I would kill for a small piece of pizza or a bagel with cream cheese. I know that now it's a big no no, but was wondering if I'll ever be able to have a piece of pizza again. lol, all though no more eating a 1/2 of one all by myself! Thanks for you input!

Jacquie, Yes you will be able to have pizza again. You can actually have jsut about anything that you want. i notice that the thing that has really changed with me is that there is a thought process about everything that goes into my mouth. The bad thing about pizza is all the carbs, but if you think about it it also has alot of protein too. meats and cheeses are are loaded with protein. You have to reward yourself every now and again or you will go nuts. It is a lot better to eat something that has nutritional value like pizza than something that has no nutritional value like cookies or cake or something like that. My favorite pizza is taco, they use a bean sauce instead of red sauce so it has more protein. i don't know how far post-op you are but I had mine in March and can eat pretty much anything I want if I so choose to. Yeahhh!!! So glad to hear it! Pizza has pretty much always been my favorite food! I prefer thin crust, so I guess that's good! Taco pizza is supper yummy too! Thanks!!

I am 6 months out and I can eat pizza. I try to stick w/thin crust but I have on occasion ate a thick crust but I can't eat very much because most of my pouch space is used up by the crust. Bagels on the other hand are much harder to digest. I ate 1/2 of a bagel once and it set in my gut like a brick. I think it is too dense. I didn't feel well after eating it. So, I say go for the pizza, skip the bagel. Cathy -95

Well, bagels I can do with out. I normally only have about one a month or maybe even just one every other month. But Pizza is definately going to be on my list once the Dr. gives the ok!!!

Hi Jacquie... I eat most anything I want also. I have tried one piece of pizza but didn't eat the part where there was only crust just the part with the cheese and meat on it. I have eaten bagels but they were Sara Lee brand bagels which were lower in carbs and I think whole grain or whole wheat I don't eat Cream cheese but I think you can get lite. But you're right, now would not be a good time to try these things. You need to follow what your Dr. tells you for the first few months. Now I eat almost anything I want but it is usually in small quanities and it seems normal to me any more to 'not' eat large meals. If my husband and I go to a restuarant I usually end up leaving more than half of whats served on the plate. Always eat the protein (meat) first but try to get a few bites of veggies in too. Everyone is different as far as what they can or can't eat after surgery. And I find that things I use to love before surgery don't really appeal to me now and vice vera. What ever I can or can't eat it's worth it to me to get the weight off becuz I feel so much better and I know I'm getting healthier as I lose more. The first few months were the worst so hang in there it gets better! Merry Christmas !!

Thanks for the info! If I want to try a bagel I'll make sure to look for the lower carb ones! I have noticed that I don't crave things near as much as I used to. And normally I eat a meal with out being hungry because I only feel hungry maybe 2x a day. I guess I just really miss the variety. I'm tired of everything I'm eating now. But like you said, it's well worth it!!
