Immanuel has its good and bad. When I was there for the VBG I couldn't say enough good things about it. I remember there was an older nurse there, everytime she would try and help me get out of bed I would tell her no to let me do it myself - she would walk out and mutter "what am I doing here". Every time she would do that (ha ha); But with being in that much pain I didn't want them touching me. (Just keep the drugs coming - ha ha) I was there on October 7, 2003 for a tummy tuck and breast reduction, Dr. Armstrong performed that. She is great, took a little too much off the chest but then I should have probably waited until I hit goal weight before I had it done, but boy did that make a HUGE difference getting rid of all that flab. The great thing was the insurance covered that also! Because it was in relation to the VBG. Unfortunately I couldn't get them to cover the arms and legs, that they considered cosmetic. But my visit that time was a little disappointing. There was one nurse that could of cared less if I were alive or dead, made it very depressing. I think we experience some type of depression as it is with being in pain and then how they MAKE us get up and move, oh girl be prepared! But you know once they told me the more I moved the faster the pain would go away, man I did my best to get up and move. (I'm a weeney when it comes to pain). That time it seemed to me like they figured that what I was there for wasn't life threatening so it seemed like that didn't pay much attention to me. Kinda like "you did this to yourself, there are more important patients who need us". Hey when we are hurting we all like being babied right?

Boy, I'm sorry to hear that! I just never have gotten that attitude! Thankfully (I think!) my mother is insisting on staying with me. She's a nurse so she likes to be on top of things. Both my mom and dad are coming up from Tx. My dad just for the surgery, my mom is going to stay to help me take care of the kids for a few weeks. But she wants to be right there to make sure I have everything I want and need. I tried to talk her out of it but when she asked me if I would let either of my girls go have surgery with out me there, would I let them go alone? lol, the fact that they are only 6 and 10 didn't make a difference. I really appreciate you taking the time to help fill me in! Jacquie

No problem. Take the help, especially with little ones around. And it is nice to have someone around who knows what is going on in the hospital setting, you're a lucky girl. Good Luck.

I just wanted to add that they will check you over very well before they do surgery. I had an EKG .. chest X-ray ...lab... and an ultrasound on my legs (I have had blood clotts in my left leg)... some drs. do physic tests and I also had to see a nutritionst (sp). They will check you over very well before they do the surgery to protect you and them!! I have heard some really bad stories also most were from complications after the surgery. And most of these were a few years ago so I think they check you over more now before the surgery to prevent them. There are dangers and they will tell you about them. All surgeries have there risk factors. You have to decide if you want to take the chance or not. As for me I have heart disease and have had double by-pass heart surgery. My feeling was that in a few years I would have a major heart attach and maybe die anyway but with the weight lose maybe I could prevent this from happening and live what life I have left healthier and happier.

Sounds like you made the right decision! The best we can all hope for is a happy healthy life!! I know the Dr. talked about alot of different preop tests. The PA is supposed to call me today and let me know more info on that so we can hopefully get things going. I am trying to think very positively about the surgery. I just tend to be a glass half empty girl. But Dr. White has never lost anyone and has only had 3 minor complications. So sounds like he has a pretty good track record!
