Well, I posted that I went to Dr. Whites orientation last week. I've been totally set on having the lap band done. Well he really didn't push anyone one way or the other, but he did make one comment... He highly reccomends that people who like to eat alot of sweets should have the RNY done and not be banded. So hubby and I did alot of talking and soul searching and I've decided to go ahead with the rny instead of the band. Soooo... anyone who has had that one done, especially by Dr. White, any info that you think would be helpfull? I know the basics. But I've heard so many helpfull hints and stories on the band board. I am extrememly nervous about this. But Dr. White say's he's never lost a patient so that should help reassure me, right??? Well thanks! Jacquie

When I went to Dr Goering for my consultation he made a comment that he didn't think the Lap Band had been used enough to know how they would work long term. But he only does RNY so I don't know how true that is but he sure didn't encourage having Lap band. I had RNY on July 21, 2004. I had no complications and was released from the hosp on July 23rd I went back to work in 9 days (desk job). But I have read on other message boards of complications so you should be aware of them. I had X-rays (chest) EKG and ultra-sound on my legs (for blood clots) and blood work done before surgery so they check you over real good before you have it. I am 12 weeks post-op and have lost 40lbs. I'm one of the slow losers most that have had surgery in July have lost 50+

All I can say is I had the RNY and Im so glad I did. I also have had no problems. I had planned on the lap because I was nervous about the more invasive surgery of RNY but my insurance wouldnt pay for lap. No regrets. Down almost 60 pounds since July 26. I have checked off 4 things on my list of 8 things I wanted to do when my mobility got better. Im leaving on a lighthouse tour tomorrow after work.( one of the things on my list) Ill be back Sunday night.. Until then...JeanB

I had the RNY with Dr. White in May 04. I am now down a total of 96 pounds! I totally agree about the sweets thing. I was a BIG sweets eater. Knowing the sweets are gone is a big difference. The RNY was done laporascopically with 5 little 1/2 in*****isions and 1 for the drain tube. Physically, I was ready to go back to work about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks after. You should come to our support group for the post ops (preops do if they want more info!). There are a handful who have had the band. Most have had RNY. I know of at least half that had the band that I think now are wishing they would have had the RNY instead. Loss is a lot slower, and you have to constantly be monitoring if it is time for a fill. You can email me at work if you want more info. It is [email protected]. Debbie -96 pounds forever!!!
