smoking test
My name is Terry
Can anyone please help me with this question.
I had to quit smoking for this surgery. I smoked 27 years and "bam" cold turkey. Its very difficult when you live with smokers and work with them. I admit I slipped a couple of time. The nurse Lisa said there was a test to make sure I wasnt smoking. I have also been on the patch. Is there such a test and if so how long before it gets out of your system? I waited so long for this surgery and to think I may have screwed it up because I was angry and had 1/2 cig, I would be devistated. Is there anything I can do to get it out of my system? My surgery is set for 082404. On Tuesday. I am scared. I was doing great for 3 weeks when I slipped.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Terry-
There is definitely such a test. Other types of surgeons use it before they operate also. It is a blood test, I believe. I do not know the answer to the other question, but maybe you could "google" it, or call a local occupational care clinic.
you could call Comp Choice in Omaha at 402-898-5600, and they may be able to help too.
I think you are referring to a Blood Gas test, which measures the oxygen, carbon dioxide and pH of your blood, not the nicotine, they are very different tests. One shows your oxygenation, and the other is like a drug screen. At least the nicotine test comes from a vein, so it doesn't hurt so much!
hope that helps!!
