Hi ya's! I've been trying to read about everyone for the past week or so. I'm finally thinking that surgery will be the way for me. I was always to scared because I heard about so many people (relatively) dying from it. But from what I can see it's gotten so much safer! I live in south central Nebraska. At first we were pretty set on me going out to omaha for a band, but I'm going to go to Grand Island to see a Dr about the RYN (lap). Has anyone here had that? I know I saw one lady who was going to have it done this week with the Dr I'm looking at. That would be Dr. Goering. Well, anyway, I just wanted to say hi! I really am gratefull that you are all here posting so I can read about all the different experiences!

This is a serious operation -not to be taken lightly-but if you have lived the life most of us have had--it is a small price to pay. I have my RNY on August 30th---I am anxious and also nervous but deeply commited. This message board is so great to get advise. Good luck-Cassy M

oh I definately know that this is a serious surgury. I'm just happy that it can be done laproscopicly (sp??) rather then actually being cut open! lol, trust me, I am quite nervous about the whole prospect. Just trying to look at the bright sides! Good luck to you!

Lap is a great way to go, but make sure you have a MD experienced in Lap surgeries. Before I had my surgery I went round and round thinking that I should have a Lap. I posted on the main board "Lap vs. Open" and several said that they had a leak and had to be opened anyway after their Lap. For me, something made me feel better knowing my stomach was in the hands of my surgeon instead of looking at it on a screen. Don't get me wrong, their are definate advantages to LAP. Just make sure you have an experienced MD. good luck! deb

Thanks Deb! I talked to this Dr and another Dr out in Omaha that does the banding. And we've decided that it looks like getting the lap band is what would be best for me now. So I have th ball rolling for that. So keeping my fingers crossed and waiting now!
