I have been told by my Insurance company that "treatment for obesity" is an excluded coverage.I had appt.set for consultation w/Dr.Thompson,but cancelled it,the only self-pay program they have in place at UNMC is for the Lap Band.Anyone know of anyone that accepts self-pay? Thanks for your help.Mary

Thanks Shelby...I appreciate your reply.I was really disappointed to find that out,my employer is in the process of changing health care providers,so maybe the next one will be better.Have you been thru the surgery yet? Let me know. Thanks again,Mary

Hey Mary, Yes hopefully the next one will be better! I know what your feeling my employer about switched on me right as I was getting into it all, but thankfully didn't. I had my surgery on may 28th of this year. To date I've lost 50lbs! Keep me updated on how things turn out. Shelby

Actually just inquired this morning,my employer has decided to stay w/the Health Insurance we currently have.Rats! I figure where theres' a will theres' a way, somehow I'll find a way to get it done.My fiancee's Insurance says it is covered thru them only if medically necessary. We plan on getting married "someday"...but I definitely don't want to get married just so I am covered for the Gastric Bypass.Frustrating! Wow,50lbs.? Thats' awesome! Are you glad you had it done? Which procedure did you have done? Do you feel good? Its' great to have someone to talk to about this,it helps.I want it so badly but feel like I am at a dead end.

Mary, Bummer! That stinks. When is your wedding date? I feel for you! To answer your questions, yes i'm very glad I had this done. I can't even tell i had surgery, a week later i was ready to go back to work, which isn't normal. I hap mine done open not lap, as my dr. did not do it that way. I have about a 5 inch scar but i can deal with that I feel really good, i haven't dumped yet or been sick at all! I guess i'm one of the lucky ones, cuz i know many people have problems or small complications after surgery. Keep your head up and think positive. Things will work out. Shelby

Hi Shelby! Sounds like the whole procedure has been awesome for you! Thats' great! How much would you like to lose total? Have you gotten depressed at all about not being able to eat like you used to? What type of Health Insurance do you currently have? I'm almost tempted to go out on my own and do it that way. Where are you from? Age? Any kids?... Take care! Mary

Hey Mary, Yes, thankfully everything went perfect. I'd like to lose a total of 150lbs. I haven't been thru the depression like some get. At first I was like what did I do, I can't eat, but I'm passed that i guess. I have Medica Insurance and they are wonderful! I didn't even have to get approval from them, if my dr. deemed it necessary it was ok They are based in MN tho and no places in Nebraska take Medica so thats a bummer, but I'm going to still go to my doc in Mn for checkups. I live in Bloomfield, its in northeast nebraska near Norfolk. I'm 24, single and no kiddies....what about you? Shelby

Wow,your Insurance sounds awesome! Maybe I'll move to Mn.(hee-hee)...you said you were back to work in a week? Where do you work? I've been to Norfolk several times,I used to live in York,Ne. I'm 40yrs.old,engaged and I have a wonderful 14yr.old son,Nick. The guy I'm engaged to is my "first" love from back in 1984..we were engaged then but broke it off.He found me via internet about a year ago and its' been awesome ever since then! He doesn't care if I'm overweight, which is wonderful, but says he'll support me no matter what decision I make. How big is Bloomfield?

I moved back to my hometown because about 2 months prior to my surgery I lost my job. I stayed with a friend for 2 weeks after my surgery. We are both professional photographers and within a week I was going to work and helping her out. I'm starting my own photography business. I live north of norfolk, bloomfield is about 1,000 people....so its pretty small. wow thats cool about meeting your sweetheart again. Congratualtions on your engagement. He sounds like a great guy...does he have a younger brother? Shelby
