Hello, With Blue Cross Bs PPo is it impossible to get approval for weight loss surgery? I just don't wanna get my hopes up for natta. The Md that I'am looking at requires a PSy. evaluation, nutrional appointment and the list goes on and on...All this even before he will have the initial consultation with the patient..I The insurance requires the wls to be medically neccesary..HM Does anyone have any idea on what the criteria is based on for approval??I've called 5 different times and got various answers from the service reps....I was just wondering if anyone had a negative or positive experience with this insurance company.. I'am located in Houston, Texas but I have blue Cross Blue Shield PPO of Nebraska...My Hubby works at a company that is based out of Omaha.Just in case, you were curious.....lol Any input that you could share would be greatly appreciated... Have a great day!!!!!!

I have this same insurance and it does have an exclusion on it for any kind of weight reduction including wls no matter what the diagnosis. It is my understanding that this is an exclusion my employer put on the policy not BCBS. You should be able to find a copy of your policy on the BCBS website. I certainly wouldn't have alot of pretesting without knowing whether wls is covered or not. BCBS is being a real a** about approving this surgery.

Well, it is not a exclusion on th e policy but it must be medically necessary..What ever their definition is of that term..lol..

I thought I had read that bcbs of nebraska was excluding all wls at the begining of this year. I hope I'm wrong, if your a railroader, you may have your own policy with bcbs of NE. Union Pacific has a huge policy and enough pull to be able to do this. I was lucky that I had my surgery in 2003. I work for a small co. that provides my health insurance. My co. insurance costs went up 47% last year. no wonder we didn't get raises this year. Chris in Beatrice
