Lap-Band Errosion
Haven't posted in forever. I've had a heck of a time w/my lap-band. I had to have the port removed 3 times, due to infection. I started having major problems in Jan. w/abdominal pain. I was told I had a hernia in front of my port that would have to be fixed before I could get another fill. I had a CT Scan & t/results came back that it was not a hernia. Just some kind of lump the size of a sm.peach. I continued to have pain in that area. About 2 wks. ago it became difficult to swallow solid food, without pain. The Dr. then decided I needed to see a gasterololigest. The beginning of this week, I started having pain at the band site. I wasn't supposed to see the gastro guy until next wk..But under the present conditions, I was seen this past Thurs. My band has erroded into my stomach. I go to Lincoln on Mon. & on Tues. morning the entire thing has to come out. I was told I might be able the go the gastric bypass after 6 mos. of healing. Does anyone know if this is a common problem w/the band ?
I'm so very sorry this has happened to you. Unfortunately I've heard of this happening all too often. I'll keep you in my prayers that your surgery to have it removed will go well.
Maybe after you have healed you could consider getting the duodenal switch with Dr. Gary Anthone in Omaha, Nebraska. He is an excellent surgeon and has performed over 2000 DS surgeries.
If you want to learn more about the duodenal switch you can visit http://www.dsfacts.com or http://www.duodenalswitch.com. There is also a surgery forum here on Obesity Help.
Again, I am so sorry this is happening to you.

Hi Jill, I am so sorry to hear your band has eroded. Band erosion is one of the complications of the band. You can have the band replaced after 4-6 months of healing depending on what your surgeon says. Good luck. Let us know how you are doing. Mona

I am so sorry Jill, that has to be frustrating. I have had trouble with my band sliping a couple of times.
A couple weeks ago I was vomiting and could not keep anything down so after two days of this, I went to Omaha (of course it was the weekend) and went to ER, thought my band had slipped. Good thing the Dr. didn't listen to me, I was just asking for the fluid to be removed. He did a cat scan on me and it wasn't the band after all. That litte trip was over 6,000. Thank goodness for insurance.
Give me a call when you are in Grand Island sometime.
