Back Pain and Obesity

Hey Everyone!  Just wanted to know if alot of you have back pain from being overweight?  I have been suffering with low back pain due to an injury for 13 years now.  It is a chronic condition and very painful.  Just recently (3 months ago) I started to have pain in the neck and shoulder blades also.  I am in such severe pain, but my MRI doens't really show anything that can be done surgically as of yet.  I have degenerating discs, some milding bulging discs, and some moderate spinal stenosis.  Tried to have WL surgery a year ago, but was turned down by my insurance for not have enough documented attempts at weight loss.  I was so bummed out and kind of gave up on it, but now that I am having this severe back pain I'm thinking of trying to do the documented weight loss program with my doctor.  Has anyone had back pain besides me, and if so did the weight loss surgery help you.  Thanks for any info!  Hope

Hi Hope, I haven't had any bad back pain before I had surgery. I do know of people who have had back and joint pain before surgery. The pain was much better once the weight was off of the back and joints. Plus you would be a better candidate for back surgery if you were thinner. Check with your insurance again. The requirements can change from year to year. Good luck. Mona
