I am looking for a list of support groups and their meeting dates, times and locations. Being I am not well versed with NE except for the 8 times I have been there in the past 10 years I would appreciate it if you would fill me in on this info. I was referred to this page via the support group section here on OH. My sister in law and her husband, living in Hastings, NE, are researching the LapBand and I told her I would try to get her some local information. She does not have internet access at home so I am sending her info. Any help I could get is great. By the way, I saw a post from Vanessa @ Germany on the board here a few days ago... she used to be one of us AL girls so take good care of her when she hits NE soil!  Thanks so much! Gail PS....Hi Jimmy and congrats on your 3 year anniversary.

Hi dakota, I am in holdrege Ne (just a hop skip and a jump from hastings).  I just recently had my RNY done in April.  I am also going to the support group in Kearney, that's the only one in the area that I am aware of.  I do want to say a couple of things though.  Please let your sister know to take her time in deciding which surgery is best, and do ask her to ask her surgeon which one would benefit her the most (yes there is a difference).  The first surgeon I had left 100% of the decision up to me and did not help me choose which one would work best in my case.  I hope this helps.   I hope this helps, Kati

Thanks for the info Kati, much appreciated.  I have already told them to not make their mind up until they know everything there is to know and also once they pick a surgeon. They are in the early stages just doing the research! They don't know which surgeon to use or what. Hopefully they can get into a support group and get some great info from all of you. Thanks for the help. Thanks for the help. (Sorry I couldn't resisit! LOL) Gail

lol smarta$$ lol Please don't be offended, I mean it in a very funny way with a coy smile on my face.  I should mention, creighton university has an informational seminar (free) I think it's on the first thursday of every month, but I'm not 100% sure.  The number is on creighton's website.  If she is interested in going all she has to do is call and ask

I live in Grand Island only 20 miles away from Hastings.  I will be going to the support group that is starting in Kearney next wed. I first attended an info meeting in Omaha, Ne where the surgeon there Dr. White gave the pros and cons of all the surgical options that he did. I know there is a surgeon here in Grand Island but all he does in the gastric bypass,  I had already made up my mind before I even went to the info meeting that I wanted the lap band.  I watched the series Big Medicine on TLC that is where I first heard of the lap band procedure so then I researched it on the internet. Everyone is different and has different needs and they will have to decide for themselves what is best for them of course they will have to discuss it with their surgeon too. I know there is a support group that meets in Grand Island, I have never attended that one due to scheduling conflicts with my church activities.

Also maybe the local library in Hastings has internet access that your sister in law could access, I know the library here in Grand Island does.  That would be an option for her. If I can be of any help have your sister in law give me a call, if you email me I will give you my cell number. Barb from Grand Island

Hi,  the support group in Kearney will meet on July 23, at 7pm.  We meet in the community room at Southview Village 1004 W. 11th St. From I-80   11th St. is about the 5th stop light from the exit and then turn left or west and go eight blocks and Southview is a left turn again and the community room is down just alittle ways.  We are a newly form group and would love to have more join us.  Starting in Aug. all meetings will be on the third Wed. of the month at 7 pm.  Hope this helps you   Linda eloc29
