Hi, I'm from northern MN.   We are planning a family trip to the Dakota City area in the middle of May.   Just thought I'd stop by and say hello to the NE folks and see if anyone has any ideas of fun things to do while we are there.    We're staying with family so luckily we won't have lodging to pay for.   Looking forward to just getting out of town LOL.    We have an 18 yr old daughter, a 15 yr old son and a 18 month old daughter that will be coming along.....just thought the ages might help as far as activities go.

You might be also try to post something on the South Dakota and/or Iowa boards.  Most of the people on this board are either out in the Panhandle of Nebraska (Scottsbluff, North Platte) or a few are here in the Omaha area.   Since Dakota City is near Sioux City Iowa/South Dakota it might be an option.   Debbie

Thanks...I hadn't thought of that idea.   We have decided to come a day or so early and go to the zoo in Omaha.    I'm sure we'll find plenty to do LOL.

Michelle, I love zoos and i personally think the Omaha zoo is the best. I have been to the denver, colo springs and the washington d.c. to name a few and by far I LOVE omahas. How far into ne do you plan to go??? Kearney has the famous Archway over I-80 and it takes hours to go through, it is very educational. North platte has the Nebraskland days for 10+ days in June and then in sept they will have the second Rail Fest Days which for the first year was great, if you like railroads and all their history. We have passenger train rides, tours of the world largest railroad center in the world.....just a little infor about my end of the state. , Beth

The Archway is interesting, we have been there once.  And I have been to Nebraskaland days twice back in the 1980's a few times. We had a family reunion in North Platte during the same week. I hadn't realized they had Rail Fest Days.......I bet my sister would like to go to that with me.  My grandfatheer and father and uncles all worked for the UP.

This will be the second year for the rail fest and it was a huge success last year, a few people have made the comment that it will be bigger than Nebraskaland days...guess we'll see..later

I  "know" you from the post-op pregnancy board, as I am one of the "lurkers" over there!  I have a 9 month old!  I have heard so much about Sadie! The zoo down here is great, definately worth the trip to Omaha.  There's also the Durham Western Heritage Museum (near the zoo), and the Sac Air and Space Museum out near Gretna and Mahoney State Park.  Debbie

Cool....those sound like great ideas.   We're going to try to leave here during the weee hours on Wed morning so Sadie will sleep most of the trip so we'll have Wed and probably most of Thur in the Omaha area before we head back to Dakota City to be with relatives.    We checked out the zoo's website yesterday it looks awesome.    Sadie loves animals so I'm sure it'll be a hit.  Thanks for the info.     You should join us over on the parenting board too...it's actually starting to be active now.

If you have never been to Boystown it is so worth a couple hours and right across the river ( next to the zoo) is the Squirrel Cage jail in Council Bluffs.. AWESOME place!!
