Let's talk Docs! Lapband surgeons in OMAHA
Hi there!
I'm going to be starting the process of getting a lapband and I'd like to know about the local surgeons who do the procedure.
I went through this process once a few years ago only to be denied by insurance, and back then I talked to Dr Sudan. I liked him and I felt confident that he was very comptetant, but, at least a few years back, he wasn't sold on lapbands. At that time, he told me that lapbands were only about 20% of his procedures. I had every confidence he would perform the procedure correctly, but I did have a few doubts that he really BELIEVED in it.
Of course, given there's been a few years since last we spoke, I plan to see him again.
However, I'd like to know who my other options are out there.
Who has been banded in OMAHA? Who was your surgeon and where did you have the procedure done?
I'm about equal distance from Creighton, UNMC, and Immanual, and would prefer to go to one of those hospitals over anothers in town, especially if the surgeon does his/her fills there.
Of course, I'll also have to consider who accepts my insurance/who I can get the insurance to refer me to, but I'd like to have a little heads up research before I have to pick from a list of names.
Thanks for any info you can give me!
Always ;-)

Hey Hunzi!
I had surgery with Dr. Corrigan McBride over at UNMC back in Sept. of 07. Her support staff is who you would mainly deal with especially during the approval process. After surgery you typically have a post op visit or two with Dr. McBride and then you are seen by her PA.
My primary doctor recommend both Dr. McBride and Dr. Sudan. The key deciding factors for me was the supporting care through UNMC as well as the fact that I wanted someone that could relate to any problems that I might have (i havent had any post op problems). Dr. McBride actually has the lapband herself so she can speak from experience and not only from the position of a surgeon.
I know there is at least another surgeon and I think his name is Dr. White (i might be wrong), a group of us lap banders used to get together and I think we all had different surgeons.
Good luck to you on your wls journey!
I had my surgery with Corrigan McBride @ UNMC December 26, 2007. I'd highly recommend her and her staff. She has the band, as does at least one of her nurses. They are quick to respond to questions/emails, they are extremely attentive to your medical needs (I had a cerebral thrombosis two years ago), and they are fun/nice people. Feel free to email me with any other questions, Jen
