What kind of protein can really depend on your doc and surgery type too. Frankly, instead of possibly wasting money, why not wait until you see a clinic and find out what they'll require of you. Some require specific kinds - others are anti-protein supplementing at all...and also your tastebuds will change postop - what you like preop may make you gag postop. ((((HUGS)))

Hi Bette, I take it you are having a gastric bypass. Sometimes the support groups have samples of protein you can try. Also the bariatric coordinators that work with the surgeons have samples available. Also if you attend the support group the members can give you good information as to which protein supplements are good to try or not. It takes a while before you hear about approval. If it has been awhile since you have heard anything, call the insurance company to find out what is going on. Good luck in your journey. Mona

Bette... I think you will find that your tastes will change A LOT with your surgery. I had RNY and I have 3 friends with lapbands. We all find that foods/protein that we liked BEFORE surgery we didn't like afterwards... at least for while. It seems like a few months out from the surgery, it is easier to tolerate them. It is important to get all your vitamins and protein, so I hope you find something that you like. good luck!
