Lincoln Weight Loss Surgery Recovery/Support Group
Greetings!
I want to extend an invitation to the Saint Elizabeth Weight Loss surgery meeting. It is for any patients that have undergone a procedure to promote weight loss after surgery. It is open to all patients whether you had surgery at St. E's or not. The focus of our group is to look at our relationship with food past and present. We study aspects of food addiction and work the 12 steps ( similar to the AA program.) Research has demonstrated that unless people engage in long term support of some kind, old habits and coping skills related to feeding emotions, etc often return inspite of the surgical intervention. None of us are perfect, we all have our struggles. Staying in touch with each other and staying focused are helpful to most of us. Feel free to check it out. We are currently using the book by Kay Sheppard titled, " From the First Bite," a guide to food addiction. If you have questions you may contact me at 219-7638. Shelly Holman RN/Bariatric Coordinator/ St. Elizabeth Regional Med Ctr.

Hello Shelly,
I believe that you had emailed me to let me know about the support group when I had questions about where to find one, trouble is, I haven't had surgery yet and am just beginning my research. Well, I have been researching for a year and a half and I know what I want, I am just afraid to ask my doctor for a referral because I'm afraid of his reaction.
Can I still come to the group if I haven't had the surgery?
Thanks,
Laura in Lincoln
