OH Yeah, I can relate to those "runaway veins"!  Mine like to hide all the time, too. I have one spot I know they can hit if they are any good, but it never fails, they send me the new guy first, who pokes me until they give up, go get the next one, who pokes until they call the person who knows what they are doing. In self-defense, I got to know the one who can stick me and get it the first time, and so when I go in, I just say "I want Deb to draw me, I have really hard veins to get." SOOOOOO much easier on everyone.

Hi Kelly,

I know what you mean about hide-and-seek veins.  Mine were awful before my surgery; weight really does make a difference.  I was so so close to having my IV for my surgery being put into my neck!  Then my favorite anesthesiologist came and found a vein just like that on the thumb side of my right wrist; not very pleasant but loads better than the neck, I'm sure.  Anyway, once you start losing weight, your veins may still want to be difficult, but they should be easier to find; at least that's been my experience.

Best of luck to you on your journey to your new life.  It is the best thing I could have ever done and am so very grateful for my surgery and all the doors it has opened in my life.

Take Care,
Tanja

Here I am again! Didn't ya just miss me? LOL

Made it through my pre-opt appointment today. Sat in the waiting area for like 15 minutes. The whole time I am thinking,Ok doctor isn't in,Maybe he is talking to my regular doctor, maybe the whole team is making up its mind if surgery is a safe bet (due to blow to head). The mind races and plays tricks on you! That is why an idle mind/hands is the devils playground!!

Finally get called, weight taken, temp all that jazz. Into a room I go and yep you guessed it..I waited a few minutes! LOL Today was the waiting game. All I wanted was something to drink and eat, I have been fasting since midnight people-chop,chop.

Garcia finally comes in with his happy smile and hand shake ready. We go over my questions first. I had brought in my meds to show him the size and he also see's no problem with me being able to swallow them (they are horse pills!) But ok, he and my regular doctor both say it will be ok-I shall believe them until I prove otherwise LOL

The only thing I will have left to do before surgey is I have to go to the nail shop and have them unpretty my nails- bummer but, I knew it was a thing that would have to be done so had already made the appointment for it last week.

After he told me everything I will need to know about the day of surgery and recovery,I was sent to the lab for my blood draw.

At the lab,Yep sit and wait LOL Once called in The guy getting ready to preform the duty of blood I warned him I don't like needles and the veins say "See ya". I think he thought I was joking. He felt on both arms for veins to no avail. He had a lady come in who also felt and thought she found a spot after poking and poking with a butterfly IV needle nothing, nothing nothing. She then tryed the other arm..nothing again. They had a 3rd person come in and he felt my arms a bit and finally thought he has a spot. Ready for this? TADA it was a go! I had told them all 3rd strick your out!! Guess my logic worked. So I will be all full of bruises AGAIN from needles, they will clear up in time for yep, you guessed it surgery!LOL

I then went and picked up all my wonderful opti fast drinks,tre-puree meals and chewable vits! I am all set.

Surgery is still a go for August 12th! Hip Hip horray!!
Until next message take care!

Greetings

I have 16 days until surgery.  I still have not found out the results of my MRI, no news is good news I say. I have went out and bought a hand wand mixer for shakes, mini food chopper thingy, food scale(all from thrift stores), a variety of protein packets, made my own little cupboard for MY food items. LOL.

Todays venture will be going to the thrift stores and finding an icee type maker, ice crusher etc.. I love thrift stores and the hunting is the big high of it all.

I am still apprehensive about this surgery still going on,on the date set..seeing as I still have no answers about my fall on 4th of July.

My pre-opt appointment with Dr Garcia is Monday (tomorrow!) in the morning. Fasting this eve for that.  Trying to compile a list of last minute Qs for him. I am not having much luck with that. Do I know all the answers already? What if I forgot something? Am I just that ready the questions are not a matter to me? AARRGGG I hate double thinking myself.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

I had my RNY on May 31, 2005 at Altru.  Dr. MacColl is great.  It is the best thing I could have done.  Best of luck to you.

I had thought about it but, family plans made it not possible. Besides I will be nearing surgery and on that wonderful liquid diet. I will probably be crabby pants by then LOL
Maybe the next time one rolls around past surgery etc.. it will be better planning. Hard to believe things don't make it to ND. I know there is a big group in ND,you would think we would get some of the traffic LOL
If you go,enjoy and post us some information later.

Hello fellow North Dakotans!

Just wondering if anyone will be attending the Summit Support Group Meeting at the Mall Of America on August 2nd?  My husband & I are seriously thinking about going.  It's just so darn close how could you not?

Thanks!
