Topic: Dr. Schlecht Guest Speaker at Feb 16 Fargo Support Group
Kristina Schlecht, MD, www.innovishealth.com/FindPhysician/bios.aspx  (see her info on link) will be the guest speaker at the Monday, Feb 16 "Weigh to Go" weight loss surgery support group in the lower level (by the fountain) at Innovis Health Hospital, from 6-730pm. Dr. Schlecht has something in common with so many of us, she's had the surgery! Join us for a Q&A session from a medical professional who has really walked in your shoes.

Also, bring along your supplements so we can do an exchange of information. We all know some of us have problems with large 'horse' pills of calcium citrate, prefer different types of B12, might like liquid vitamins instead of pills, and have found other options. There is no 'right' supplement, as you get no benefit at all if you don't take them because they don't work or sit well with you. This is a chance to see what others have found. Write down where you bought them, and what you paid. We'll compile the list for everyone to help you with your shopping. Supplements are a lifelong requirement, so you might as well find something that works for you to make sure you stay healthy and compliant to this chosen lifestyle.

Everyone is welcome, doesn't matter what kind of surgery you've had, or not yet had, or where you had it done. If you're looking for information, this is the place to be on Feb 16.

I tend to agree, Tink, that bras and panties are a pain, but I have trouble with shirts. My chest has shrunk, my hips have shrunk, but my spare tire still sticks right out there and messes everything else up when it comes to fit. It has been there since I turned 40 (I used to have a waist, even being heavy) but I was warned that 40 changes things, and it does!

This is for every one that is Pre and post... Not postal!LOL

With all the changes my body has been going through. I find some things a little hard to deal with. One of the main things I hate!! dealing with is... Not knowing what true size I am when going to the stores. Prior to surgery I would grab something off the racks and buy it. I knew what sizes fit. Now a days its a HUGE production to go shopping- clothes shopping that is. We will leave the food shopping topic for a couple days from now.

My question I pose to everyone is:

What is the least favorite piece/type of clothing for you to go buy now?
(Those that have not had the surgery take notes lol you will be in this same boat soon! and you will look back and say-That crazy lady on ND board said it would be like this!)

My least favorite clothing items to buy right now are under garments. I look at panties and have no clue what size to buy. I just know some of mine are to baggy. Others are not holding the skin in place like I would like. Bra's just never seem to fit, the cup is not always full any more and if I go bra less someone will get hurt! most likely ME!

So, Please share what your clothing issues are. I am all eyes waiting to read your issues

Was wonderful meeting you and Kathi too! and spending that extra time with both of you
FYI- I am not having that slump after lunch til 2 pm! That extra B 12 must be doing something or its mind over matter lol

Kelly,
How true your words are!  Every time I see my refection in a mirror or window, I have to stop and realize."oh thats me!" And after a full day at work walking the halls of the hospital, I am so amazed that I can do that, cause 3 years ago I couldn't do a 7 minutes stress test!
I was a pleasure to meet you, Kathi and I talked on the way home that maybe between all of  us we can get this ND board on track, giving and sharing all that WLS has given us and supporting the newbies. Ans especially to you for keeing it going when it was "dead on arrival..."
   keeping the goos thoughts... Peggy

Topic: Having a life?Getting a life? living a life?
or is it existing in a life?

Last year about this time I fully got on board and set out to make drastic changes in my life.  I was tired of hurting, not being able to do the things I wanted to do with ease. Yes, life was getting harder as the days grew longer.

I went to my informational meeting back in the summer, had all the papers filled out. It was a fact of SENDING the papers along to get the ball rolling. Somethings in life are easier said then done.  I finally got them sent and before I knew it I was scheduled for many other appointments. This was going to be real and for ME.

I passed my "You are not nuts" test. I met with a surgeon of choice. Then it was to take 3 months of nutritional classes. Yes, I am not kidding. The classes gave us all kinds of information on what to expect after surgery and what we could start doing ahead of time to ready our bodies for the changes.

I met a wonderful woman in the class and we developed a bond. She would become my angel during/after surgery. We have continued to be friends and I fully support her and give her my time as needed to get over those speed bumps life now offers us at times.

I had my surgery in August and had a large speed bump 15 days later that required a 2nd surgery. I fully recovered and life was starting to get good. I make sure to go to monthly support group meetings and still offer advice to others getting ready to take this journey. It is best to go in armed and ready then to go un-informed. After all this is YOUR/OUR/MY life we are talking about.

I take what I think is a lot of vitamins daily and make sure to follow doctors advice and keep them informed if things seem not right. I am happy with my life. I took control over it and am showing the profits from it. It could also be called a GAIN. Not the kind we are normally used to, there is no pounds or ounces behind this one. I no longer just exist- I life life fully!

You get one body, one life and it is important to take control over your life.  Last night while I was at support group I got to meet a couple special ladies. These ladies(sisters) has WLS a bit back and not only did they have WLS so did a few other of their family members. What a gift they gave each other in that family. The gifts of life and watching each other go through changes, aging and happy times. What better way to have a life.

Please if you are reading this and thinking about surgery. Remember it is your life, your body and no one else is more important then YOU! It is your choice that matters.

Becky- My thoughts wishes and many hugs come your way. Thanks for all you do!

Until next novel- peace and happiness to all!

Topic: RE: question
Well, the ticker is the $64,000 question b/c I can't get mine to work either.  I have it on my signature, but I haven't been able to change/ update it.  I have figured out that the place on your profile on OH where you update your weight is not where you enter the info to update your ticker.  You have to double click on your ticker & it takes you to the ticker factory, where you enter in your sign on/ password info, update, & presto, it's updated on OH.  I don't know, maybe you have to paste another code into the OH section of your profile, but I'm stumped b/c I can't click on my ticker.  I have put out this question on the DS board about one hour ago, but no responses yet, except Tammy, who is in Mandan to say sorry she can't help me - at least she tried!  If I figure out more any time soon (eg, before I forget about this post), I'll let you know, but if that's not for another month, I'll probably forget by then!

I had the psych eval at EDI also, it was pretty straight forward.  Good luck & let me know if you have any other questions.  Take care, Lisey

Hello Lisey,
I also have BCBS, one through the state and the other through my husbands work.
All  I know is in 2007 I took a class of sorts about the foods to eat and we tried the pureed food and protien drinks.
Becky Dr Garcias assistant told me I need to have my phyc. eval, appointment with Dr Garcia, and this class with the dietian, then they are submitting my paper work and a letter from the Dr to the insurance, they told me I will have a surgery date in March.
I have been through this in 2007, Was denied,
So we will see.
How do u get the ticker to work?
I have tried twice now.
Thanks
Queenie/ Lo
