Topic: NEW!! Scheduled for 4-27-09 Lap RNY w/Dr. Monson

New to this forum and very happy to have found this site.

I just started my Optifast yesterday and so far so good.  How many of you here had surgery done at Meritcare Fargo and with Dr. Monson?

Are you happy with your results? Would you recommend this to your friends, family? Would you do this again?

I hope to get to know alot of you in the next 2 wks.  I am so excited for the surgery, but scared some because of the side effects or complications.  I know this is what I need to do.  I just had my pre-op yesterday and it went great.  I was originally scheduled for this Friday, the 17th, but on April 4th I ended up in the ER with some mild chest pain and pain radiating straight thru my back.  I had elevated D-Dimer test which stated that I might have a blood clot in my lung, ct scan showed that I did, but then Minot, nd doctor repeated ct scan and NO BLOOD CLOT so I was on Heparin, Coumadin and Lovenox a short time and so happy to not have to take them anymore.

I would love to hear everyone's stories.  Hope to hear from you soon.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.

NO more water in Fargo, that is the rule!!
Looks like it is West of Fargo getting the bigger problems.
I am glad your date is back on the table and your day is just around the corner.
Wishing you the very best!

How exciting! I sure won't forget my anticipation for the date of my surgery two years ago. I'm sure your surgeon will be pleased at your preop weight loss if there's a better chance at the lap versus open. The weight loss will help lift the liver from your stomach to make it easier for the lap possibility. Don't be disappointed if he makes the decision for the open, if he feels this is in your best interest. Either way, when you leave the hospital, you're on your way to weight loss. We'll be thinking about you Monday morning!

Everyone responds differently to the changes necessary for success after the surgery. That's why you would do well going to a support group, so you know you are not the only one with issues. Take it slow, don't try to advance too quickly, or you will respond with situations that feel like complications that others might take in stride.

Because you hold the healthcare professionals responsible for the decision you made, is another reason its good to get together with others to share your complications so you can see how others dealt with them. This is your journey, and your surgeon simply gave you the tool. Its up to you to determine how well you succeed. You need to find the means to make this decision a success. This board is a great way to look for the benefits, rather than speak so harshly about professionals which others have found to be very helpful. Think positive and respond positively, and you'll get a great deal of support. I'm wondering if maybe you weren't ready for the commitment this decision requires?

Well after having my RNY surgery cancelled on March 26th due to flooding, I am back on the surgery schedule for Monday.  These 3 weeks have really gone slow.  I have dropped down almost another 10 pounds though (total of 50) so I am sure Dr. Monson will be pleased with that and I am praying it makes the difference in whether or not he can do me laparoscopically.  So if the river behaves itself I should be in surgery by 8:00 AM Monday.  Would appreciate your prayers.

Hello there.
sorry you are having problems,, I went back and read your previous posts and if I am correct, you had open RNY surgery March 5th..is that correct? And then on March 25 you were eating walleye and yams?  I dont think your little pouchy was ready for all that. I had lapro and wasnt eating that kinds of food for many months after. You just had major surgery, your insides are healing, keep that in mind. And , JMO... your name on OH tells  me a lot of your attitude about RNY.
Keeping positive about your new way of life is the healing road ahead.
