Congratulations on your approval, and welcome to the ND Board! Having the surgery is the best thing I ever did.
2 years later I am down 110 lbs. and maintaining. Thankfully, my body doesn't like certain things that I shouldn't be eating anyway, so that keeps me towing the line.

Summer,
Don't believe or take to heart everything you hear or read on how others felt or what they experienced. I don't remember a lot of pain, while in the hospital they give you this cool button. You get to push/click it every ten minutes as needed for pain. It is your then direct life dope line LOL
I came home with oxycodone (?) and I have never cracked the seal on the bottle. Each persons pain is different, I believe you will be doing wonderful. I know of a woman we will call her daredevil lady LOL who went on a jet ski 2 days out of the hospital after surgery! Another lady just came to one of our support groups who was 5 days out of surgery.I think I was walking almost a couple miles about 10 days out of surgery. So, there is hope!
Wishing you the very best to come!

Thanks Kelly.
I am so ready for this. I know its life altering. I switched to caffine free dt. coke 2 months ago, and 2 weeks before surgery I am going to stop drinking pop. I heard a lot of people come out of surgery with a caffine headache, and I DO NOT want that to be me.
I have yet to attend a support group meeting :( I work 5p-3a so its hard to attend, but I think I would benefit from it. I plan on attending the one this month before surgery and then those after the fact! Can't do this alone!
I am taking 4 weeks off of work. Am hoping I will only need 2, but I have no idea what its like after the fact so am preparing myself. I've heard the pain after surgery is the worst pain I will ever experience. That scares me a bt, being a single parent with a very active 3yr old.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Summer,
First off welcome to the board/finding it!
Congrats on getting/picking a surgery date.
Remember your mom will be smiling down on you with her approval of your journey into better health.
Being nervous is a normal reaction. This is not to be taken lightly, it is a major surgery. Everything you do past the surgery will be up to you. You will be in safe hands, and have a lot of people on OH to learn from. If you need a shoulder etc... give me a shout.
Wishing you the very best and waiting to hear more from you.

Topic: Approved and date scheduled
Hello everyone.
I am new to this board. Actually its the first time I found it!
I received my approval from insurance last week (exactly 1 week ago tody) and scheduled my surgery for 9/25/09. This date is actually my mom's b-day. She passed away 7 years ago at the age of 52. I picked this date because I figured she would be with me!
Everything is happening so fast. At least it seems like it anyways.
I am a little nervous but a whole lot excited about surgery.

Hey Kelly,
you are doing great, I too got down to 120, my lowest, then finally got to my current weight, 129 I have stayed there for 2 years now. Your body makes the decision where to stop and then you maintain. See the psych.... no.. good for you... you have no issues, whats his problem? You have it together, he just doesn't see you enough or know you enough to see that. Why do some Drs. think we all have issues, believe me Ive met some , that need to see someone for their own issues....You are precise, articulate, and know exactly what you eat/do/live. hey look at your menu plans for that...well anyway, hang in there girl... Im behind you for support....Peggy..

Hey, Kelly,
You're pretty picky about what you eat to ensure that what goes in is the calories/protein/nutrients that count. There are others who don't follow the rules as much as you do. I think the change in your weight really came full circle the last couple of months. I'm certain you'll do just fine and your labs will give you direction on where you need to 'tweak' it!

Congratulations Kelly....You've come a long way girl. So happy for you. Isn't this the most wonderful tool? I am down 114 pounds also in 9 1/2 months. I can eat about 1 cup total each meal....it all depends. I will see my WLS surgeon in November. I am very curious to see what my labs are. I feel great though and seem to keep losing. I am about 5 pounds under Surgeon's goal of 161. I am 5'7" tall and 66, going on 67 in November so I think that's about where I should be...between 156 and 161.
