Flooding/Surgeries Cancelled
I have been hanging out on this board for months. Just reading and learning. Everything has been going well in my process up until today. I was scheduled for an RNY for this coming Thursday. All packed and everything. So anxious I could hardly figure out how I was gong to stay busy enough to keep from driving myself crazy while I wait for Thursday. Then a phone call to let me know all elective surgeries at MeritCare for this week have been cancelled due to the flood. Not that I lack empathy for those of you who are dealing with protecting your property from the rising flood waters but, right now I feel as though I have been kicked in the stomach. They will be starting to reschedule surgeries for the 3rd week in April. Both my husband and sister had taken the week off of work to be with me and my kids had made arrangements to be off of work for the day of my surgery. I had made arrangements for my daycare to be closed and my parents had found substitute care. On top of that I have been on Optifast for 6 weeks and though I am thrilled with the 40 pound weight loss, I am emotionally feeling like I couldn't stand these shakes any longer. Even starting to have difficulty keeping them down. I've already gone back to bed and cried under my sheets so I thought I'd see if anyone else has a suggestion for how to get through these next few weeks. I am really feeling depressed.
Hi,
I am sorry you are having to go through surgery cancellation. I know we set everything up to fall into place, and it just sucks when this happens.
Congratulations on the 40 lb. weight loss! I hope you get rescheduled soon so you can regroup.

To the world you are just one person, but to one person you are the world.
Well, if I hadn't believed in miracles before I would have to now. MeritCare called me back stating that since I had already been on Optifast for 6 weeks they felt it was important to continue with my surgery plans. They felt that I would be in the best possible physical condition for the surgery right now and have decided to go ahead with the original plan for surgery on Thursday! I am so grateful.
Shelber....I am so happy for you that your surgery is still on.
Speedy recovery friend and welcome to the losers' bench...even if you need a boat to get there. PUN!!!
Seriously, best wishes to you and let us know how things are going for you. We were so fortunate to escape any flooding or blizzard the past few days here in Williston. My thoughts and prayers for those in the state not as fortunate as we are.

I am so sorry! I feel awful for you! We had a huge blizzard the day before and day of my surgery so we left the morning prior and made it, barely so I totally empathize how you are feeling! It'll come! There's a reason for everything! Just keep your head up!!! This ND weather is really stinking it up lately!!! Best of luck!!
I heard the report on the radio that all elective surgeries were cancelled I was like OMG! Not only this type of surgery but ANY elective ones. It sucks! Then for you to get a call back that you get the go ahead...CONGRATS!!

Woke up to icy roads and snowy travel conditions this morning. Also heard that part of I-29 was closing so felt we better hit the road and get to Fargo. Road was terrible but made it okay. At 2:00 I get my call from the hospital notifying me that I need to report to the hospital at 5:15 AM for my surgery which is scheduled from 7:15-10:00. By 3:30 I had been called back and told that Meritcare was shutting down many of it's operations and all surgeries were cancelled. Though the weather was bad and we had already paid for the room we were in, we felt we should hurry and get back on the road to home before the conditions got any worse. We were packed up in less than 10 minutes. By the time we were leaving the motel they had already shut down the elevator. We were told they were turning off the power as the motel was taking on water. As disappointed as I was that my surgery was being cancelled, at this point we were just sad for the people of Fargo. I am told to stay ready and continue the liquid diet and as soon as things are back up and running I would be the first one contacted to fill in any openings in the surgical schedule. And so I wait.......................
