Looking for some advice
I am happy to say my surgery has been approved, but my husband is totally against it. He seems to think it's the easy way out. He says he's afraid I'm going to fail, and we will have wasted all that money for nothing.
I put the surgery off until at least January so I could work on my husband, but ultimately it is my decision. It just would be a lot easier if I had his support. So please any of you who have delt with this I could use some advice.
Also I have a few months before my surgery, so any advice on things I can do now that will make things easier later.
I'm in Fargo- Moorhead Area, and would love to find some support
You are not going to fail. I thought before I had this done, I would be the one person on the planet that this wouldn't work for. It did. I had surgery in Feb and lost 100 lbs. It works. My husband was somewhat lukewarm because he thought it might have medical complications, but he knew the decision was all mine. I stick to the rules, and have had no issues. Why do you want to wait? I had my surgery a week after my insurance company approved me. I wasn't going to wait a minute longer. It is not the easy way out, it was an important decision involving my health, and the list of comorbidities I had was a greater threat to my well being, coupled with my weight, than the procedure and lifestyle following it. As far as 'wasting the money', if I had to do it again and didn't have insurance, I'd do a payment plan. It is worth far more than a car payment and worth every penny. I'm also in Fargo and you can email me at [email protected]. We have a small support group every fourth Thursday at 4:45p and its the best. Everything including the advice is free. You shouldn't have to spend more money in order the make the decision you'll never regret.
I'm sorry you dont have a better support system, that is crucial. And if he thinks it's the easy way out he is wrong...I had my surgery in June of this year and I have struggled every inch of the way, still teaching myself to eat slower, smaller bites and the right foods. It is NOT easy, and it seems that way to everyone else because we lose so much weight so fast I think, but what they don't realize is we have to Work really hard to keep it that way. After 6mos - year if you are not eating right, excercising right, or taking your required vitamins you will re-gain just like other diets. But this surgery is a tool. I think you will do just fine and even if you need to get your support for on here I know my 'June 2007' has been the greatest for me. I will keep you in prayer and hopefully your husband will come around.
