Hi, and welcome to the site!

When I approached this subject with my PCP a few years ago, he was a bit cool to the idea.  He wanted me to try a bunch of other things first.  So, when I finally decided I was going to do this no matter what... I brought it up to him again.  To my great surprise, he was totally supportive!  He said that he now has other patients who have had WLS and he has seen vast improvement in their health.  He said he simply couldn't argue with science.

That being said, even if he hadn't been supportive of my decision to have the WLS, I still would have kept him as my PCP.  He's a great doctor!  Not all doctors are very understanding with different or risky methods... but overall, he's always been a great doctor for me.  I'd only switch if there are other red flags.

I will say that I've had an extremely tough time finding a PCP in the Greensboro area that I actually like.  My PCP is in Asheboro, but he's been my dr since I was about 10 years old.  I've tried other practices in G'boro and they just were not up to par with the level of care I'm used to receiving.

I don't know that my post helps you at all, but I think that if you are happy with the general care that you receive from her, you should stick with her.  Who knows, you could be the one patient that changes her mind on the whole WLS thing!  Good luck!

Hi Michelle,

I live in WS and had no problems with support from my PCP.  At the time it was Dr. Suzanne Hilton with Total Family Care in WS. Granted I was considerably heavier than you (370 at the start and now about 240....gotta get back on track lowest was 199 after an unrelated surgery last year).  I now see another DR in her practice, for no other reason than it became increasingly difficult to get an appoint with her so I figured why not change to the doc that was seeing me.  That is Dr. Aimee Lischeke (sp?), still with Total Family Care.  While she'd seen me briefly pre-op, the next visit was about a year post-op and she was quite excited with the results.  She went so far as to ask if I was still under the surgeons care for followup and bloodwork.  She advised me to let her know when I was no longer seeing him for regular bloodwork checks so that she could take over tha process.

Stick to your guns!

Hi,

Yes a fatty liver is an issue and losing some weight should help.  It doesn't hurt to get other advice.  It is important that you are confident and assured before you have surgery again.  So, go ahead and seek other opinions on this.  It's not going to hurt and it may even provide a better option.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Hi all,

Hopefully going to a deaf chat meetup this afternoon.  That's about all I have planned.  If it doesn't rain, I may go to the mall to the open air concert tonight.  Just depends.  How about you?

I'm torn.  Duke is just a couple of towns over.  I can go there if I want.

If you recall, I had surgery in May but they decided they couldn't do it and closed me back up.  I guess the problem is that my next surgery date just got changed to August.  I have time to go somewhere else if I'd rather.  I trust my doctor but I guess somewhere in the back of my head I'm wondering why he couldn't do it.  I know, it was because of the liver but still, I had to go through a lot.  And then my case manager quit and I've been sort of just hanging out since the beginning of June.  At this point I don't even have a case manager.  I sort of feel like they're dropping the ball.

I went in today for a weight check.  I've lost another 8 lbs, which surprised me.  That brings my total to 12 lbs.  I know, not a lot but a lot for me.  After the last surgery the doctor told my husband that I needed to lose 10 lbs and they'd do the surgery again.  The PA said I needed to lose 30 lbs.   I don't know who to believe.  I guess I'll just keep on trying to lose and we'll see where I am in August.

So, what would you do?  Would you go for a consult at Duke?  I'm guessing since insurance already approved me that I can go to another doctor.  They didn't approve the doctor, they approved the surgery, right?

Anyway, I'm sort of stuck with this in my head and I can't let go.

KIm......it took me about 2-3 weeks to feel like I could sleep well and REALLY enjoy my bed....I am a stomach sleeper so was in there the night I got my drain out....oh happy day!  I was fatigued for the first few weeks but now feel better and better. I still need a lot of sleep though.  Keep drinking and soon you will be on pureeds....I felt so much less anxious when I was off of liquids (although I STILL get nervous trying new foods).

Good luck!

Not much on my agenda today. I have been lazy for most of the day but that may be because I didn't go to sleep til about 4am! I am going for a walk this evening with the walking buddy so at least I will get some exercise
The positives for this week are that I made a pact for 'no excuses' for exercise this week. I made it to both personal trainer beatings (for which I am paying now...arms so sore it hurts to pick them up! lol) and did some aerobic videos at home when the rain washed my walk away earlier this week. And the other positive is getting another callback for the job I really want. I have 2 callback interviews next week. Hopefully something will happen soon with one of them!

Happy Friday to all!

Same here with the grocery shopping. I found PB2 at the commissary. I also made a big boo boo last night and ate 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. It was the only thing I had all day. I am paying for it now with some gastro problems. I will NOT be doing that again- at least not for a bit.
I really hope you can get a job soon shoutjoy. It sucks that I am not working now myself but that will change once school starts back up.
