Hi Amy,

I'm so sorry that you are struggling and I'm glad that you are seeing a psych regularly. I'm also glad that you shared your struggles with us. Sometimes those who have had struggles with getting their weight off never think that they might move to another eating disorder that might swing the pendulum the other direction. I think it raises awareness and  it lets others know that they aren't alone. Please keep working on it and try to increase your intake by at least 100 calories, hold that for a few days and then bump it up another 100. I don't know if that will be fast enough to get you where you need to be in the time frame you need to accelerate your caloric intake. I know that this varies a bit from person to person, based on your metobolism, weight, activity level, etc., but generally they want you to consume about 10 calories per pound you want/need to weigh, so if you want/need to weigh 120 lbs, then you need to build up your calorie count to about 1200 calories a day to get your weight there and keep it there.

Hang in there!

I love Dr Stefanidis!  He is a great surgeon, very friendly!  He really takes time with his patients!  I know you are excited!  I promise I would do it all over again!

How do you like Dr Stephanidis (sp??)  He did the seminar I went to and he was funny!  Dr Kuwada is going to do my surgery at the recommendation of my regular doctor but I really liked Dr Stephanisis' personality!

My surgeon just recommended losing as much weight as possible (he said with every 10 lbs lost before surgery the easier the recovery).  He didn't give me a certain number that I HAD to lose before surgery.  I am at pretty much the same weight now as I was in May...but I am glad I haven't gained.  I am a little ashamed to say it took actually getting my surgery date before I started taking seriously trying to lose some weight...

I will have to do a liquid protein diet 2 weeks prior to surgery to help shrink the liver.  Not sure if everyone has to do the same or not.

Good luck to you!

Topic: Wasn't my back!!!!!!!!!!!

The doctor checked my pp and I have a high level of ketones. She said I was starving to death. I had to up my calories. My body is eating on it's muscle. I got to drink glucerna and eat peanut butter and eat cheese. Lots of protein. It's my fault. I don't eat like I should. I only eat once a day and keep it under 500 calories. My weight is 105. I am very under weight. I am scary skinny. 6 years out and still struggling. I go to my phych every 2 weeks. I have major issues. I'm trying. Sorry if I made anyone mad.

Yep Gas-x strips are what you are needing. You are not suppose to be swallowing any type of pill for a while. Be careful, that funny feeling you are talking about may be the pill not going down correctly and it is just sitting on top of the opening at your stomache until it dissolves. Been there done that.   God Bless.

Oooooooooh, today is the dentest!  Yikes. It won't be pleasant.  This tooth that I had the root canal done is still giving me trouble.  Hubby is off today and tomorrow yippeeee.  He thought he was going to get over time yesterday but they won't give it to him.

Took a little time off from applying for jobs.  I am hoping this will be an awesome week.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

I wasn't given an amount to lose before surgery and didn't have to do a pre-surgery diet. That said, I had already decided to move my weight south and had started doing a South Beach style diet. I lost about 15 lbs from the time I first met my Dr and the time I had my surgery, but this was not a requirement.

Many Dr's want patients to go on diet because it helps to reduce the size of the liver and makes surgery easier and safer. We lose weight from the liver first, causing it to reduce in size.
