Topic: RE: Considering WLS

I'm from New Bern, but will be having my surgery (VSG) in Mooresville because I'm self pay. I've heard good things about both. I know Greensboro has an excellent surgeon. I would think The Surgeons at Duke are just as good. In my opinion Duke has the better facilities, especially to respond to potential complications. Hope this helps a little as the NC OH Message Boards are dead and do not have much activity.

Topic: Considering WLS

I am live in the triad area and I am considering having WLS.  I am thinking about either going the duke or greensboro for the surgery I and wanting people experiences with either place for their WLS.

Hi  I was wondering if anyone has knowledge of a surgeon doing revisions, RNY to ds, in the Wilmington area?

Thanks

Hi there. You may get a more varied response if you post on the general discussion thread

I had a breast lift/augment and arm lift this past Thursday and am ready to go back to work :-)

Very surprised that I had zero pain, just more uncomfortable than anything. Pretty much slept after arriving home Thursday, all Friday and Saturday. Stopped the pain meds Saturday minus a pill last night to sleep... I am a side sleeper and sleeping on my back with my chest/arms elevated is very uncomfortable and making my lower back ache. Have my first follow up Friday and cannot wait to get these damn drains out. The compression garment is torture... hoping the surgeon will let me cut the arms some as it currently goes all the way to my wrists which is perfect for summer. I am to wear it 23 hours a day for the next few weeks so it would be helpful if I can hide it some. My arms look amazing...so small! My friend yesterday said the top of my arms finally match my little kid sized wrists). My chest is still pretty swollen and the implants are very high up... I know it will take time to relax but its nice to have "the girl" back up where they should be instead of being way down south. I am planning on going back to work (desk job) and working Wednesday and Thursday (however long I feel I can), then have a nice three day weekend before heading back to work.

Excited to have taken this next step, all that is left is a thigh lift and my journey will be complete!

I had surgery with Kara Criswell of Criswell and Criswell - her and her husband practice together, he assisted with my surgery and they have offices in South Park and Ballantyne.

Unfortunately my insurance at work will not cover any type of WLS, regardless of medical necessity. I've explored I think every avenue and felt hopeless. I stumbled upon Belight Weight and found nothing but positive info on them. Their self pay price is $6800 for a gastric sleeve, and offer in house financing. Though traveling to Mexico makes me nervous, I think that is the only real route for me to pursue as this is becoming a life or death situation for me. Does anyone have any experience with this company, doctor, or Star Medica in Juarez MX (Borders El Paso TX)?

What are some positives and negatives I can expect, don't be afraid to tell it like it is without sugar coating.

Thanks

Sammy

Topic: 8 years and still going strong!

This Friday marks 8 years since my surgery. The person I was 8 years ago seems light-years away, however I still cannot believe its been 8 years.

I am pleased to say I have maintained my weight loss, I take my vits/supps daily and get full blood work annually to ensure everything is where it should be.

I am 2.5 years out from an extended TT and am super excited for July 10th when I will be having a BL/BA, brachioplasty and laser skin tightening on my neck done with both Dr.Criswell's from Criswell and Criswell plastic surgery here in Charlotte. Even at 8 years out I am sill on my journey... hoping in the next year or two after this surgery to have a thigh lift and complete the plastic surgery portion.

I attended the support group at Carolina Surgical last night headed up by the wonderful Lyn Hanley. I arrived late but when I arrived the topic was "owning" things in you life... instead of saying "I cant gain this weight back" because face it, you can, but saying "I will not gain this weight back" or "I will do what it takes to be successful" etc. I thought back to the day I decided to have surgery, I woke up and bolted upright in bed and said thought I cannot live my life like this anymore... during the process I would think about people who did regain and, of course, was asked quite a bit about the surgery not working or what if this what if that and thought I will NEVER go back to the way I was. That is something that has stuck with me these past 10 years... from when I decided to have surgery until today. Hearing what Lyn had to say and remembering what I thought all those years ago made me wonder if that was a reason why I have been successful thus far... I never said "I cant" I said "I will NEVER"...

Anyways, hope everybody is doing well!! I look forward to following up again in August after I recover some from the PS.
