Questions....Diabetes....etc
Ive been on two diabetes meds for about a month now. Im also taking something for high blood pressure. Going to a diabetes awareness class has revealed a lot to me. I have been keeping better track of my blood sugar, what I eat, how much exercise I do, etc.
The meds are working extremely well now that I am taking two different kinds of glucophage. The past two days it has been between 97 and 109 which is amazing to me considering that they usually run 380 or more. I have discovered that my blood sugar isnt caused by my activity level or eating habits as much as stress. On stressful days it shoots up to 350 and stays there, no matter what I eat or do for exercise. The one food I know I cannot eat because of my blood sugar is V8-type vegetable juice.
Right now my blood sugar is 109. Ive noticed that when my blood sugar is this low, I feel a little light headed and nauseous. I guess it has been so high for so long my body isnt used to "normal". Also when it is normal the other symptoms almost disappear. I am not drinking 5 gallons of water per day now. On stressful days I do but I have tried to avoid stress.
I usually drink (literally) 2 or 4 gallons of water every day, and sometimes even more than that. When my blood sugar is under control it is a lot less but not always. I am worried about not being able to drink much after surgery. I really have forgotten what it is like to not be thristy all the time and Im so used to it now I just drink even when Im not thirsty.
Ill be going to GNC next week to stock up on some things like the whey protein powder, other protein drinks, etc. Any recommendations are surely appreciated.
Concerning my post earlier about no one turning in documents to my surgeon most of it has been straightened out now. My PCP sent some papers to them but they were incomplete, which doesnt matter because apparently my surgeons office lost them anyway. The exercise physiologist sent the paperwork in on April 8th but again the surgeons office lost it and she had to re send it. The nutritionist forgot to turn anything in at all, and has basically tried to make it out to be my fault which is crazy. I remember specifically asking her if she had everything she needed and she said yes but now she acts like I didnt do everything she asked or come in for another appointment etc.
I have resorted to hand delivering everything to my surgeons office. Tommorrow Ill take (hopefully) the last thing from my PCP in and be able to set up an appointment for my UGI and H Pylori tests.
How much could you drink after surgery? Did you get dehydrated?
What did you stock your house with before surgery?
