I hate to sound stupid, but what is the restaurant card? Also, where can it be found? If it's something I want to find! Thanks! Susan

Good luck finding anyone that will let you actually use it.

Debi The restaurant card is actually more trouble than it is worth. I know we would love to use it, but because it can readily be printed off anyone can get it and use try to use it regardless if they have had surgery or not. Also, finding someone that will take it almost takes an act of congress. I do one of three things. I either order off of the children's or senior citizen menu (most places will accomodate this request). If they will not I just order whatever I want knowing that I will have it for lunch tomorrow if my teenage sons don't get in it. Larry

Larry, thats what I have decided to do. I have two teenage boys. So I know if I dont want it or cant eat it they will be more than glad to do it. lol. Anyhow I do have a question. When I start eating solid foods what is the best thing to start with? a salad looks devine about right now lol . or even a half of a sandwich. But I am just curious to know if there is anything I sould watch out for at first. Anyhelp would be great.

Hey Holly First and foremost what to eat during the solid phase should have come from your surgeon or nutritionist. But with that said here is my opinion. A salad does look divine and later on will be divine, but at first stay away from lettuce. It is empty nutritionally and will give you killer gas. Yes! The gas can get worse. This just isn't a good beginning food. Also, you may get discouraged because you will be amazed how much lettuce on a salad you can eat. You've got to remember that is can be compacted very well into the pouch. A sandwich? This is the old Holly craving....get that demon out as long as you can. With that being said I do sometimes eat a sandwich, but the bread can get gummy and make you dump. Also it will fill you up with a lot of carb calories and has little value as well (but it does taste soooooo good...remember this is a fat food....we are new creatures). I would suggest to continue with lean meats...chicken, turkey, etc...add some vegetables like green beans, steamed or stewed squash (add lots of seasonings. Seasonings are your friend ), cooked broccoli (but can also cause monster gas), tomatoes, use your judgement on the veggies. Remember, protein first...then other items. If eating out the first places I went were Golden Corral--rotisserie chicken and brussel sprouts, Taco Bell--refried beans and cheese, McDonalds--grilled chicken sandwich without the bun. I'm 16 months out now and do give myself the things I want, but in moderation. I now know the proper portion size and it is imprinted in my brain. At 2-4 weeks out I would be in trouble now if I allowed myself to eat what I wanted. Take the time to learn your new body and learn some new good habits. You will be surprised and one day you will slap yourself up-side your head and say...WOW, I'm eating like a "normal" person. If you can stay away from desserts, etc...at this time (even those made with splenda and "sugar" free do. Don't do anything that may keep you from being the smaller, wonderful person you want to be. Remember, we can gain our weight back over time. It's the habits we learn now that determine if we will be in the re-gaining grou*****t. Larry

Larry - I am hoping to have surgery in May and I must say thank you so much for the reply to Holly. The information was very informative to me as well and I am sure others who have surgery dates in the future. Thanks again, Donna

Larry. Thanks for the info. Im not much on sweets so thats not going to be a problem. i think so far the only thing that I have craved is a soda. I miss that burn from the acid. lol. And I am not much on bread either I would make my sandwich into wraps. So I guess that may be a bonus for me also. Now as far as meats go well that may be a problem will I will adjust. I am more of a veggie eater.I have always consumed my veggies first and I was told that that is a no no because I will need the protein from my meats first. But I guess I will learn thru trial and error. Buts its nice to know that when you need input you have your OH family to help. Thanks a Million.

Well said, Larry!!!!! I'm almost 5 months out and have just started having a salad. I mainly eat the meat first. I got one at O'Charleys the other night and I had 3 meals on it and my husband had one as well!!!!!! The South Beach foods are good. I've found them good and they definitely meet our requirements. Holly, I found that the rotiserre chickens from Harris Teeter are great. The meat is very tender and easy to eat. I've used the chicken different ways to add some variety. Cracker Barrell has some great chicken tenders that are on the kids menu. Eating out can be kind of stressful, so I generally eat in. It is really sad that not many restaurants have food that is good for you! Nancy
