Weak and tired
RNY on 03/05/12
It's been almost 2 weeks since surgery and I'm still not feeling like myself. I know it takes time, but I'm not a patient person. The pain is getting better everyday but I still feel very weak and tired. I'm sure it's the lack of protein because I'm lucky if I can get 25g in each day. I'm still finding it hard to eat anything. I feel so full all of the time. I've been walking everyday. I worked up to a mile today. I'm stressed about school. I missed two days last week because of the weakness. I have my last nursing test before preceptorship test on Monday that I haven't really studied for because of the surgery. I have to pass this test to go on to preceptorship and graduation in May. My follow up appt. is Monday morning so hopefully he can shed some light on what I can do to feel better. I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
Tired and weakness just goes with the course of things. If you are like most of us, the worst part is behind you. You will gain more and more strength everyday. I am almost 10 weeks out and I feel almost back to my old self, except a lot less of me and I can do things now I couldn't.
Hang in there, you'll be a big loser for certain!

If you are only getting 25 g of protein you do not need to be walking a mile. It is to soon to be pushing yourself this much. You need to increase your intake and try and rest. It is the only way the body will heal. Nursing is very stressfull, which is also tiring. I wish you all the best. Please be patient and take your time on the recovery.

You are one smart cookie, Audra! The doctor said the same thing yesterday. He said while it's important to get some form of exercise, not enough protein coupled with the fact that I am very dehydrated is a bad combination and I need to cut back on the exercise. I have to go to the infusion center today to get some IV fluids so hopefully after that I can start to feel better. Thanks for the excellent advice!
